Did anyone notice that Sayid said " I would sell my soul before trusting him" Referring to Ben. Then at the end of the show, he is WORKING for Ben, killing people! Makes me wonder if Ben is a Devil or some other evil sort and Sayid did sell his soul. Any thoughts?

I don't think its referring to Ben as the devil...i think they were showing the irony between Ben and Sayid. Sayid was soo adament about NOT trusting Ben or working for him and says "I'd sell my sould before trusting him" then come to find out in the future he IS working for him, but obviously he's only doing it to keep his friends safe and to hold this supposed secret. This show is full of irony and I think that was just one of them. Goes to show you how much different the future is for the Losties off the island, makes you wonder if they even should have left!

i agree dz...don't think ben is evil but Steph good thinking .....i wondered once if maybe they all sold their soul.....kate for freedom, jack for being able to always be the "fixer/mender of things"....Locke for his legs back...sawyer for finder the real sawyer....jin and sun for being able to find love again and having a baby....claire for being able to keep her baby without having to worry about having to worry about how to do it without a dad (had charlie)....rose to be cancer free and bernard to have rose live....etcetcetcetc....a few of us talked 'bout this one night....great theory....maybe abaddon is the real EVIL

i think one of the most telling lines in the whole series that will show it's full truth throughout the rest of the series was in the season two finale when michael was making the trade and getting on the boat and ben says "we are the good guys"... obviously the losties and viewers at the time couldn't reconcile this because they couldnt understand how he was really talking about something much greater than their petty disagreements on the island and instead he was really talking about a much greater global struggle

I'm glad you brought that up with the S2 finale reference. Sometimes that gets "lost" in the shuffle in the show's discussions and speculations.

All good points, but I'm inclined to think Ben is somehow serving the greater good. I really like your angle JN, it does seem that they may have sold their soul.
P.S. grat to have another nurse around Steph!

It's interesting also that when Sayid entered Ben's house and looked at the books he saw the Quran! Then all the passports - new zealand, switzerland, japan. We clearly see Ben doesn't stay on the island that much, but travels all over the world, so whatever his mission is - it's massive

yes, i think that comment was purely for the irony as i am not 100% convinced ben IS the bad guy. or at least, he is not bad for the fun - he does what he does as its a means to an end.

So, as everyone knows the writers of Lost love to use names that get you thinking (like all the characters named after philosophers). Well, 'Abaddon' is a Hebrew word used in the Old Testament referring to the grave or the realm of the dead (cf. Job 28:22; Psalms 88:11; Proverbs 27:20). Which ... may reveal how creepy he is (and why he doesn't want there to be any survivors of Oceanic 815?). So, if anyone's the Devil, it's probably Abaddon, not Ben.

I feel the same way. I think that Ben has some kind of technology that he needs to keep from getting into the wrong hands at any cost. Maybe it could even destroy the world. I really believe that Ben is the good guy working for the greater good.

Hmm what I find strange about the Oceanic 6 so far is that the people who seem to be getting off the island are the people who aren't as desperate to get off it as others you might have picked first! And that it DOES seem to be Jack's team who's getting off the island at the moment, so who's left of that team who could be another member?
