Ok I didnt see this anywhere else and it is really bugging me.
Lock is going to kill himself, then Ben bust down the door and talks him out of it. A little talking, lock said they needed to go talk to Elouise Hawkings and then Ben ask who Lock tells him again, then Ben kills Lock !!! Why then? why not let him kill himself.
The only theory I can think of is Ben did not know about Elouise Hawkings and didnt know how John was planning on getting back. Once he found out how he didnt need Lock anymore.
Now Ben is going to go to Elli and "help" her get the group together, so he can go back to the island with them.

I think Ben needs Locke to get back to the island. So if Locke already knew about Mrs. Hawking and had an idea on how to get back, Ben wouldn't be very useful. So Ben decided to kill Locke and remain the only person who knows about Mrs. Hawking and how to possibly get back to the island.
Knowledge is power in this case.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. :)

So you think that Ben already knew and wanted to be the only one with that info, not so much that he had just found out...

It would certainly give him the advantage. If Locke went straight to Mrs. Hawking, what purpose would Ben serve? No one really trusts him anyway, and he wouldn't have any additional information that Locke doesn't already have, so why would they let him tag along?
But now, Ben is in the position to be the only person with that information and people don't have a choice. They either get back to the island through him or they don't get back at all.
