We are watching an old Stephen King movie right now on sci-fi called Storm of the Century. Now, we are all well aware of the many references by TPTB to Stephen King and in fact, one directly made to this movie. The black and white stones Jack found on Adam and Eve. In this movie, at the end when the child is chosen (won't say for who or what in case there is anyone who hasn't seen it) the child was chosen by picking stones out of a small little pouch. Yes, black and white stones.
Now, that is not the observation we made though. Just an interesting point that many of you already know. This is what we found. The bad guy in the movie, Linoge (?sp) is played by a terrific actor. In fact, the way he moves, holds his body, his expressions and his delivery of his lines are just like Benjamin Linus! We were thinking that maybe the character Ben was modeled after this guy, It is commonly done. Interesting. It's like watching Ben's daddy!!! LOL!!!! If anyone else has seen the movie just think about it!
One othe little thing I just noticed about this movie...there are whispers in it also!!! Yilkes!!! U never noticed before but I haven't seen it for a long time and maybe never related it directly to LOST.

I usually don't like his movies because the books ars so much better.
I wish they would do a big screen adaptation of The Stand. It would take more than one movie to do it justice though. (Think LOTR)

i think there's something wrong with me.

True, the movies are never as good as what we can imagine King's words to be in our own minds. I think they did The Stand. It's about 6 hours long. Again, they did it no justice.

I saw that and thought it was decent effort. They did a tv movie of The Shining which was a lot better than the Nicholson flick. The TV version of Salems Lot was'nt too bad.

Uh, I have to disagree about the tv version of The Shining. No one, absolutely no one, can play the character better than Nicholson...
....Here's Johnny!!!!
OMG! Chills!!!

Speaking of younger. Isn't there a children's Lost forum somewhere?

Yeah I love Nicholson too but I thought the movie didn't do justice to the book. I guess when you only have two hours to tell a story you have to make a lot of compromises.

i've never even heard of the storm of the century (maybe it goes by a different name here, that happens a lot) so i'm off to imdb it.
boutte - the shining is a great movie but the made for tv one was a better adaptation of the book. apparently mr king himself also preferred it!

Storm of the Century is also a mini-series. I bet you can watch it online at Netflix. (Do they have Netflix over there?)

Bunny, if you can find it somewhere it's worth it. It's a real goodie! It's a story about the people on an island, there are whispers in one scene, a real strange bad guy who talks like Ben, and a pouch with black and white stones! As a matter of fact, this guy, Andre Linoge, has a mean cane just like Ben;s baton!Seriously, it is really a thriller! Even the ending is good and I usually don't care for Stephen King endings. I find them to be very anti-climatic after such great story telling. This one is good!

I don't like his endings either, NotSo. Except Langoliers... probably the only actual happy one...

It is not a novel or short story as such, it's an actual, published screenplay.:)

that will be why we cant remember it ;)
so he just wrote the screenplay as opposed to it being adapted from a story he wrote?

Exactly...King started it as a novel but then wrote it straight for tv. I haven't seen the series but I read the screenplay and it's an interesting story...there are people trapped on an island and a young boy who is "special", for example. ;)

You were right Boutte, it was a mini series and I spent the afternoon watching it. Wow, it was great. I haven't seen it in a long time. The actor I was talking about is Colm Feore. He's been in a lot of interesting movies.

I thought the made for t.v. movie of "The Stand" was pretty good. The Shawshank Redemption was by far the best book to movie by Stephen King. BTW I have read Nightmares and Dreamscapes, a collection of short stories a couple of times. I have seen at The Movie Gallery they have made those into short films. Anyone seen them? , and are they good?
