I agree. I've always thought he was a liar, and a backstabber and all that good stuff. But I think he has good intentions with everything he does. He just wants his island and people protected.

i think ben believes he is doing the right thing and i think the kate ben theory may be on the right tracks aswell. he does seem to be interested in her to some extent and it could well be why she is not in jail.

Anyone recall the fantastic sci-fi series, "Invasion", from a few years ago? One of the brilliant things the writers did on that series was to make the Sheriff seem like a total psychopath/alien...BUT...turns out he was really trying to do the right thing after all. I'm thinking that this could be the same scenario.

While re-viewing the re-cap with the guy who plays Ben narrating, I've noted the main theme seems to center around the island being a place where people come to, "start over" and such.

I think...can't be sure, though...that Ben is there to protect the island. After all, he evidently felt that the Dharmaites were going to impugn the integrity of the island.

Not claiming to understand it all because I love to hate Ben, but I think that after this season, I'm beginning to think he's not a bad guy after all; at least not in the typical sense.

One thing I've thought about though. Where is the blonde-headed lady that seemed to be over Ben in terms of adjudicating Julia's sentence when she was giving some kind of island court hearing. We havn't seen her since then; where did she go to?

I tend to agree that Ben could be doing good using a warped sense of morality (ex. killing people for the greater good).

Sayid doesn't seem like the follower type of personality (at least not after his experiences as a torturer). I can only see him assinating people for Ben if it is serving a greater purpose (keeping the world from exploding) or it suits his own purposes for revenge.

i have been saying that i think ben is "the good guy" but man oh man have i been beat up for it .....the thing is...yes he "purged" the dharmas including his Dad...BUT...they probably did not have the best interest at heart for the "island" and Ben was diff. from the start realizing that he felt linked to it and it's powers. AND....lets admit it ....his Dad had it coming...what a bastard......oh and about "since when is Ben a doctor" i think that he is a more like a vet...he was in a vet clinic or humane society type place....he knows how to experiment with animals since he was little thanx to Dharma...and he obviously has used the bunnies for many things (EWWW that didn't sound rite..sorry)..im fried
