This has probably been brought up before and if so sorry, but my major belief is that Horace Goodspeed is Jacob and he wants John to lead everyone and go back in time to prevent the purge from happening again. Like in man behing the curtain Jacob says "Help Me". By John preventing the purge he is helping Jacob and keeping him alive. Let me know what you think.

Anything (literally) is possible. But how did Goodspeed attain his special state of being?

Thats a real good question and I don't know the answer to that, but the things that make me think that Horace is Jacob is that he brought Ben to the island and was present at Ben's birth. Also, he shows up in John locke dreams showing him to where the cabin is so he can find Horace/Jacob. Finally, he built the cabin. Jacob I believe is good and he needs someone to stop ben from leading.

What ever was in those cans that killed everyone and gave them the bloody nose is what is doing it now don't you think? Why would two things give bloody noses and death?

if Goodspeed wants to stop the purge then why did he bring Benjamin Linus to the Island in the first place? didn't Goodspeed die in the purge of 1992? but then Richard Alpert knew Jacob in 1954? Is Goodspeed traveling through time in the form of Jacob? If so why doesn't he just travel back in time and stop the purge himself? why do people call him Jacob instead of Horace Goodspeed which is his real name?

also it is well known that poisonous gases and time travel cause death via bloody noses. the following link will take you to a long video that will not actually prove anything. please enjoy.

I don't know. Horace is definetly important, but I don't think he is Jacob. Either he was A) am undercover Hostile working with Dharma, B) someone much like Ben who decided to change sides, or C) some kind of "sacrifice that the island demanded" in that he built Jacob's cabin and yet still died in the purge. Either way he's connected to the Hostiles because of that Arrow station logo, and we now know that the Arrow is some kind of defense station against them.

I'm agreeing with **gasp** Baxter...
and definitely with Jeremy.

Question: I don't see why people think Jacob has to be one of the people on the island...did I miss something or is it being simply assumed?

We're just jumping to conclusions on that one. (I still think it's Locke)

If ya'll remember Ben had a hint of respect for Horace, after finding him dead on that bench, he walks up to him and closes his eyes. A lot more respect than he showed his own father. That scene coupled with Locke's dream, where we learn Horace built the cabin, lead me to believe he was Jacob, BUT!, since this show is never that obvious, I'm probably wrong. Either way I believe we will see him more.
