Since the beginning of the series they've always had the big picture in mind, as damon and carlton have stated, that way when we look back on the series, the viewers can say "see they had it planned this way the whole time" that way we don't think they just made everything up as it went along. So I was thinking (I know working without a net again!) back on the season 1 special features disc they have the casting call videos. Two of the primary characters they cast for was sawyer and kate with dominic and jorge trying out for the slick con-man before josh holloway got the role, and the actress playing sun trying for kate. However they do mention something about casting for a couple that gets split up after the crash. So that brings me to my clues about Rose and Bernard. They've always showed since season one things seemingly to do with the dichotomy(sp?) of man, light vs. dark, good vs. evil, life vs. death, etc... It might just have been a little simpler than that. The two stones with adam and eve, the differing game pieces (backgammon, chess), they were all signs back to the idententies of adam and eve. So I have two conclusions based on the same fact. The casting for Lost had only a handful of primary characters(Jack wasn't one of them b/c he was supposed to die in the pilot). It's either Sawyer and Kate, or the stronger of the two cases, Rose and Bernard.
Any comments?

I agree, I made a similar post a few weeks ago. There are others as well I believe.

I agree that Sawyer has always been more important to the overall plot than it appeared. They, the producers, were careful initally set up Sawyer to appear to be selfish and narcissistic, all of which makes him seem more real and likeable when he shows depth of feeling and self sacrifice. I don't think they did this merely to enhance his swoon value. He and Kate will be much more central to the Island than they appear.

I don't know if it means anything, but we have seen the parents of most of the remaining main characters, but we have not seen Sawyer's parents or Kate's stepfather - maybe Cooper is his real father and her stepfather. I know Kate's stepfather is supposed to be dead, but getting out of a burning house would not be Cooper's biggest magic trick.

Kate killed her real father not her step father, so that would just be creepy. She thought he was her step father while she was growing up, when she found out she was his real daughter she killed him.

Also, why didnt they just kill jack off already, hes really getting the crap kicked out of him, failing everyone, constantly being wrong, and losing every girl he had a chance with...I mean put him out of his misery already.
