View Full Version : How is Walt still on the island?

In the T/F thread, and maybe somewhere else, a few people mentioned they thought that Walt never left the island. I don't see how this could be true, especially when we see Walt off the island several times, seemingly leading a normal life. Can anyone explain how Walt could possibly have never left the island?

EDIT: I'm not asking how we can see Walt on the island.. There are some people who think that Walt has never left the island, physically it seemed like, so I'm wondering about their opinions.. how would he have never left the island if we see him at home? Why would he have never left the island?

Walt has super powers!:D

Seriously though he does, he's probably still able to communicate himself anywhere he wants.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he left. I think he may come back though(possibly along with Aaron and Jiyeon?), thus his apparent dreams of Locke he's been having might turn out to be more like Desmond's visions of Charlie dieing; he was really there at the time to witness the vent taking place.

Here's a thought... it's not gonna happen, but it's an entertaining thought:

perhaps while people are on the island, twenty or so years go by in the real world! And Walt, Aaron, Jiyeon, and Charlie all comeback and save the day!!!

absurd, but entertaining.

So do you think that he's on the island and "communicates himself" to his grandmother's house and to school and to visit Hurley with his grandmother.. If he wasn't really there, wouldn't his grandmother notice? As far as we know, he just appears places for a minute, not for days on end.

But even more entertaining, no time goes by off the island, and they come and save everyone as superbabies!

THAT WOULD BE FREAKING AMAZING!!! and Aussie Baby, Brit/Scot Baby, and an Asian Baby lead by the Big Black American!!! it's priceless!

No, other way around. I'm sure he's off the island, but we may see him on the island possibly helping Locke.

Yeah Walt is definetly coming back. Hmmm, I wonder if Michael will come back. I doubt it, but perhaps the island still isn't done with him.

Yeah, I definitely think we'll see Walt visiting the island soon.

I'm still wondering about my original question though. I hope someone answers.

I believe the appearance from Walt after he left was the work of Smokie/the island. In his appearance to Locke he was wearing the same clothes that he wore when he left the island - so I believe the vision Locke had of Walt was the island using it's last memory of Walt to project him.

And he is definitely off the island - anyone who says he never left is crazy.

Agreed. I believe smokie can shift into the image of different things: Walt, Black horse, Boone, perhaps even Christian Shepherd.

So Walt is off the island for sure. But the Smokie can use the image of Walt to further it's purpose.

Oh yeah, I agree.. that's not what I was asking though.. I just went back to edit my question.. I think I was being confusing again.

I disagree about smokie/the island controlling the visions (or appearences or whatever) of Walt. I think Walt does it on his own. There was another thread about this somewhere.. I think that Walt can move into reality through his dreams, regardless of time, and may not even know that he's doing it. When Locke went to visit him in NY, and he told Locke about his dream, I think that when Walt was dreaming he visited Locke.. it would have been in the future from their visit, but his dream happened in present time.. uhh.. I don't think I explained that well, at all. Anyway, I think that Walt's powers don't have anything to do with the island, I think he was just born with them. And I think we'll see Walt help Locke sometime soon, with the people that want to hurt him (like in Walt's dream).

So Walt is off the island for sure. But the Smokie can use the image of Walt to further it's purpose.

We have seen Smokie act like a camera before and "analyze" or "capture" people. When Smokie ran into Eko it showed images from Eko's life and made clicking noises every time the picture changed. And in season 3 when Kate and Juliet were chased by Smokie and hit in some roots, Smokie did similar flashes and noises like it was analyzing them.

So I think Smokie has an ability to record it's surroundings and then use those recordings to mimic what it has seen.

Hmmm.. interesting.. crap, this just made me think of a movie, but it's like it's on the tip of my tongue.. something is so familiar about it, but I can't exactly remember.. the whole camera thing, and taking on the likeness of people..

Taking that another step forward, and this may be what you intended as well, during smokies analization I believe he can even delve into the mind and thoughts of the person or thing being analyzed. Once smokie has stored that information it can manipulate that info in many different ways, one of which may be shape shifting.

Another thought may be that smokie does the recon for another seperate being. And then the other being is the one who can appear as different things that smokie has gathered in it's recon data.

This is exactly what I intended. If I am not mistaken, Yemi appeared to Eko after his encounter with Smokie - so it is entirely possible that after learning more about Eko, Smokie used the vision of Yemi to get to Eko.

This could also mean that the same thing that is portraying Walt, Yemi, and the Black Horse, could also be the thing that is Portraying Christian, Clair, and perhaps even the "first" Jacob that we saw.

I would lean more torwards the opinion that the first Jacob we saw is the real Jacob, and that he is different than that of what ever is portraying Christian. But I really don't have any solid info to back that up. It's just a feeling.

when am i?

Walt is a very special boy as Tom told Jack.
Miss Klugh asked Michael if Walt had ever been seen where he shouldn't be.
Shannon and Sayyid saw him as did Locke when he was in the skeleton pitt.
Walt has dreams about Locke being in danger etc.
I think Walt has the power of Astral projection.
He can be in one place physically but project himself astrally in another place.
He is physically off the island but can go back astrally.

i've never heard anyone suggest walt is still on the island - cuz it's nuts!! :p

i agree with most folks on here - he is in new york (i think - its NY isn't it?) and the walt we see on the island is not actually walt but an apparition/projection/manifestation.

There's no way Walt is still on the island. I saw him eating Tyson chicken wings just last week.

Two things:

One, regarding the above quote: I'm not disagreeing, but I will add that it's entirely possible (and surely probable) that the Smoke Monster actually saw Yemi on the Island before [or after] he died in the beechcraft. So the Monster may not have needed to scan Mr. Eko at all in order to project itself as Yemi. I'm just saying.

Two, if they bring back Michael, I'll stop watching. :p I'm SOOOOO sick of...

I suppose Yemi arriving dead or alive is a matter of debate...

In your favor is the fact that he was shot as he was getting in the plane that left and then crashed on the island.

In my favor is the fact that Eko found his body far from the beechcraft, I believe up in a tree or something, right? And why would it be away from the beechcraft? I can only assume that Smokie had some fun with Yemi and tussled him around a bit exactly like he did with Mr. Eko.

But the jury's out, I don't have a strong opinion either way, but I suppose in some minor way it's important. As in, can Smokie scan the thoughts of the dead?

I've recently watched 'The 23rd Psalm' and found out that, while their was a body up in a tree, it was not Yemi's. Eko found Yemi's body along with the cross around his neck inside the plane. Eko and Charlie then burned it.

Either way, I still think most of this stuff is the work of the monster. It seems as though the only ones who have truly come back to life are Locke and Charlotte Malkin(who appeared in '?', another Eko centric episode).
