View Full Version : Is this a big deal or not?

Some people think that the birth last week was Ethan's birth... And what we have seen from Ethan, is that he isn't that big of a character. So why does it matter if the baby is him or not? Is he supposed to be special or something?
and if he was born into the Dharma initiative, why was he a part of the others?

maybe this question is why his birth would be important. maybe he was taken from his parents and this caused the truce to be broken.

It's not at all clear who is a 'big' character. Characters who have seemed minor up to now may loom large in the end. It isn't even clear what major forces are at work. The Hanso Corp. started Dharma, but are they now a seperate force from Dharma. Is Widmore a seperate force from the Others or just a competitor for its leadership. The Others say they are the 'original' inhabitants of the Island. Do they date back to when aliens built Smokie and the donkey wheel? Did they build the Eqyptian Statue?

If it does turn out to be Ethan, I think it would be easy for Ethan to join up with the Others. Perhaps Paul's ankh was actually a possesion of the Others that he either stole or found. Richard would want Paul's body back only for the ankh. Because Amy took the ankh, Richard and the Others may become angry and decide to take something of hers: Ethan.
Besides, I don't know who else it could be who would be quite important enough. At least Ethan has appeared in all the seasons even after dieing in the first(well, I don't actually remember if he was in the fourth, but Juliet had a flashback so I figure he would be).

so if it is ethan - they could kill him - therefore changing the whole past few seasons since he kidnapped claire long ago and charlie may still be alive.
Hmm - second thoughts - that isnt going to happen - ignore.

could he have been the last baby born conceived on the island before the purge? maybe the others were threatened by extinction by not being able to reproduce due to ben gassing the island?

Agreed. If the baby is Ethan - his importance will be why he switched from Dharma to the Others (whether it was his choice or he was taken). And yes, I think that could lead to the end of this alleged truce between both groups.
If it's Ethan and they don't use that storyline, or something similar, the fact that we witnessed his birth is pretty useless.

i think we will find out who the baby is - and i still believe we will be suprised- but yes your right - if we dont then the whole thing was pointless - there isnt many pointless things happen on this show - things have a way of coming back to the specific story.

Maybe the significance is not with the baby but with Juliet. It seemed to build her confidence a bit.

That might be but the order to purge the Island was not Bens idea but thought it was Jacob's? That being the case than is Jacob working in the Islands best interest?

if it is ethan i would say its safe to say the others took him, they have done quite a bit of child snatching already.
but i dont really see why it has to be ethan.it could be anyone.

Maybe Richard comes back for the second body, since 2 of his guys were killed. He took Pauls body and now wants his second body. They end up taking Ethan, which could trigger the break of the truce, some serious fighting and then the gassing of the island
I think Amy and Paul must have been involved with the others somehow. If the others were attacking them while they were just having a picnic, wouldn't it be the others who were breaking the truce?
I guess Paul could have have stolen the ankh, but I don't think the others would have executed him for something so trivial. I think the reason he had the ankh was because he was in cahoots with the others in some way.

I think the worst part of the baby being born is when Jack comes in and starts yelling at it, "YOU HAVE TO GO BACK!" It's at this point that
Amy runs out screaming in terror and is never heard from again. The motherless crying baby is left on Jacob's doorstep. This explains why Jacob laments, saying "HELP ME!" John was wearing his suit and didn't want to change the baby's diaper. It was his turn so the other guys standing around him wanted to hurt him. Walt doesn't like to change diapers either, so he empathizes with Locke. "Who brought this baby in here?" yells Christian. "I used to have babies," says Ben. "You have to move this island; it's full of diapers!!" says Jacob. Mrs. Hawking chimes in, "Just put those diapers in Christian's old shoes and we'll drop them in the well during an Ajira fly-over." Just then, Ilana asks, "Do babies eat mangoes?" "I dunno", says Hurley, "but give the mango to Vincent! That dog will eat anything!!" "I know, said Sun, he ate my wedding ring." Suddenly Bruce Willis emerges from the shadows admonishing everyone to Live Free or Die of  Lost.......!! The last thing we hear is the plaintive cry Smokie as the shoes full of diapers miss their mark and land on Smokie. Ruht Roh!!
