In an episode in season 3, when Ben is trying to convince Juliette to stay on the island, and not go home to be with her sister when she gives her birth, he tells her that her sister won't give birth because she won't live that long. Then he assures her that if she stays on the island and helps with the whole pregnancy death issue, Jacob will cure her sister of cancer. Perhaps it's just Ben be a conniving little weasel, lying about the cancer to begin with and then offering to have a fake sickness healed by Jacob, but if it's true that Jacob himself is taking care of the matter, well that just seems weird. Jacob seems to be an over-seer of the island and everyone who inhabits it, but for him to work outside the box, so to speak, makes me curious. Just a thought, seemed worth mentioning. I guess we'll see.

Do you think Ben could have done something to Juliet's sister? After knowing the losties are in the DI in the 70's, Harper telling Julia that Ben recruited her because she "looks like her" may have a totally different meaning than we all thought originally. Maybe that was Ben's way of making sure Juliet was brought to the island? Ehh, I don't know though (thinking outloud).. I guess that's a really complicated scenario.

Hmm.. I don't know how much Ben really had to do to get Juliette to the island, other than send Richard to take care of it, which I'm sure he is more than capable of.
But as far as Ben saying something about recruiting her because she "looked like her," I'd like to know what episode that is so I can take another look. It seems as though it's a clue that Juliette was still alive and and part of the DI when Ben showed up, and played a significant role in his life. If you happen to know what episode, or even what season that was, lemme know please.

Well yeah, Ben was about 11 when Juliet showed up! Back in 1977! She looks like his dead mother! And it was Richard and Ethan that recruited Juliet for the island.

I can't remember what episode.. I was just checking Lostpedia, and I think it was in "The Other Woman", but I'm not positive.
I think that Ben meets Juliet in '77 when he's still a kid.. I agree, something huge could happen, and he remembers that when he's adult Ben.

I don't think that Harper's comment about "her" was referring to his dead mother. I thought that at one time, but always had a problem with it because Ben tells Juliet "you're mine".. it didn't really seem like a mother/son moment. Plus, doesn't he make a dinner for her, like a date?
Richard and Ethan physically brought her, but it was Ben who wanted her, therefore it was Ben who recruited her.

Something else I just happened to notice as I re-watch episodes online; in "catch-22" Desmond joins a monastery but gets kicked out by the head monk guy. When Desmond is turning in his robes to the boss, there's a glimpse of a picture on his desk, which shows him with a woman who we now know to be Daniel Faraday's mother, Eloise Hawking. And when the boss was informing Desmond that he was being tossed to the curb, he told him that he was sure god had great plans for him, and that he was not meant to be a monk. Seems likely that Ms. Hawking had a chat with the head monk.

You're just now finding out about the Mrs. Hawking Brother Campbell photo? Oh my. Okay, well, also then please notice the background of the photo. It's Oxford. You know, where Dan and mommy worked. There are old threads here you should look for and read about the photo. Brother Campbell and Mrs. Hawking are working together. Welcome to season 5.

Well, I look at it this way. Ben is psycologically messed up with lots of mommy and daddy issues. For good reasons. His daddy dearest never let him forget that he killed his mother in childbirth and that they were stuck on that island because of him. Ben is a sociopath. Ben is attracted to women who look like mommy. I would venture to guess that it is part of his issues. Juliet was recruited because of her secret experiments in getting her sister preggers. They needed help with that on the island. I think it was more of a bonus for Ben that she fit his mommy type. By the way, he has always acted pocessive about the women in his life... think about Alex. I look at it all as part of Ben's psychological make up. Nothing more.

i watched this episode recently aswell.
the her that was referenced could well be his mother or a grown up annie?
the cancer issue - her sister had cancer before she was recruited to go to the island. she was in remission and juliet succesfully found a way to have her sustain a pregnancy. Now, i dont think any of this was bens doing, i think she was recruited based on this.
However, juliet wants to leave and he tells her, her sisters cancer is back and if she stays and solves the island pregnancy issue - he will cure her sister. later he then shows her a very healthy looking sister playing at the park with julian.
Ben did not cure the cancer - he simply lied about its return. Sure he shows juliets some notes but we know he has a lot of contacts, anyone could have put these fake notes together for him.

I think it's interesting about Juliet's sister and Julian. I've always wondered if Ben's magic box "that can give you anything you wish for" could have given him the video of a dead sister playing with a make believe son. Or if the cured sister really exists in another dimension and if Juliet ever did get back, she wouldn't find things to be as Ben showed her.
Or Julian, Clementine, Aaron, Ji Yeon, Charlie, and Walt all might be building up to a spin-off called Children of Lost....HMMMM. :)

Bunny--You've got it! :D Now if we find out that Sayid's Nadia, with whom he had 9 happy months, had delivered a premature baby before she died, and that John has a son with his old girlfriend that he doesn't know about, and that Kate is PG with Jack's baby, or Sarah was pregnant with Jack's child when she left him, and Juliet is PG with Sawyer's baby,...well, just make up the words to go with that music....!!! Just add water and stir.LOL:
Ji Yeon, Island Girl. Charlie and the Apollo Bars. Aaron the Last Ajira Boy.
Walt of Gulliver's Island. Oh Ma' Darling Clementine's Island. Julian of Mango-Land and the Three Whispering Toes.

Now can Jacob physically do that? if he could he would have cured Ben of his tumor I think.I guess you could say he crashed a certain airplane with a spinal surgeon on board to do the job if you think he is the conciouness of the island .but if he could do that why wouldnt he just heal the tumor or the island heal it? like how Mikhail,or and John heal so fast or in a sense recieve a immortal like existence on the island.Rose was cured aswell by the island.
Why wasnt Ben?

because the island hates ben, but won't kill him for some reason. i think ben murdered jakob at one point and i think Juliet will end up being jakobs mother

I'm just going to say one thing on this subject. When Ben told Juliet that her sister's cancer came back he had x-rays of it and showed her. And also Ben took Juliet to "The Flame" and had Mikael show Juliet that her sister was still alive and the cancer had been cured like he promised Jacob would do if Juliet stayed on the island.

Ben lying? Surely you jest! :D
How can you tell that Ben is lying? ..... His mouth is moving.
Seriously, though... we've been told countless times that Ben lies, does things he's not supposed to (moving the island) and overall a hindrance to everyone... I think this matter is more about that than about Jacob's ability (or lack thereof) to cure cancer.
