I would think that if it was present time then the barracks wouldn't be so dilapidated and abandoned. So it kinda makes me think it's the future. Thoughts??
They're wherever Ben is, and Locke is with them.
Its not the future, its the present. We saw that the show went "thirty years earlier" to 1977.

Good point. The "present" would still be 3 years after they left. In 3 years, things can get run down.

yup, jack,kate & hurley are in 1977. frank, sun, john, ben, ceasar, all are in 2007

Ben would HAVE to be in the present or he would run into himself as we saw young Ben with Sayid.

The village isn't just beat up from the 3 years elapsing, there was also quite a bit of damage from Keamy and his boys getting in that big shootout last season...

i think sun and frank (lawn mower man) are there after the purge...darma stuff is present but run down. present time the others were living there and it was nice,,the barraks just looked abandoned! It could be around the 80s maybe...

Sun and Lepidus and the rest of them are in the present.
The Dharma camp looks all run down because it WAS all run down.. remember when the Locke faction moved in? It was already starting to not be kept up, and then the whole Keamy thing.. gun shots, the explosions... then three more years pass after that to get them to present day DI camp.
It looks pretty realistic to me.

well they have to be in the time frame b.w. 2004-2008 b.c. the run way was built for the plane to land, which was done in 2004, and they flew back on Ajira in 2008, so it has to be either present time 2008 for them or possibly more in the future time? any thoughts?

The present does not make sense. Yes, Keamy's people blew the place up, but why are the orientation signs everywhere? That stuff was NOT there when Ben's people lived in the barracks.
It must have been after the purge but before the Others moved in.
However, if the runway was built in 2004 (when did we learn that??), then that doesn't make sense either.
Is that runway date a fact?

well i could be wrong but was it not season 3 when sawyer and kate were chained ganged to building a run way, i would imaging that this was that same runway for this plane, thats why i believe they are in the present time period and not in the 70's or 80's. However it does not explain all the dharma stuff, that i am still puzzled on. or they are in the past and this runway was already there and maybe the run way kate and sawyere were building in the season 3 episode was them finishing the runway since in tonights episode the plane went past the end of the runway? i have a migrain just thinking about this show, I love it so much

Yeah, you're right, I remember they were totally building a runway on the hydra island. And like someone mentioned in another post, I'll bet that runway was built specifically for 316.

Season 3, ep throught the looking glass. Kate and Sawyer are forced to hard labor helping build the runway. This is the same time when they are on hydra island and in the bear cages. It happened in 2004 between the time 815 crashed and the time ben turned the wheel new years eve, 2004.
Sorry thats a large scope, but it all falls in 2004

The baracks looked extremley run down, and granted there was a shoot out there three years earlier, I don't think in three years it would look as run down as it did... At the same time, when the Losties were all living there for a short period of time last season, I don't recall seeing any of the Dharma stuff hanging around. And in this scene, they made a point of showing signage... They could be sometime between 1977 and present day. After the Purge, maybe it took the hostiles some time to take the place over, and maybe they rennovated. Or maybe they are in the future... Dunno, but I love the way the story line is playing out.

My only argument is that the show itself stated that flashing "thirty years earlier" brought them to 1977. Now that being said, 316 did take flight in 2008. so if they did in fact travel in time into the past, then it would be a very small time jump.
I wouldnt base time too much on the state of the barracks. Keamy and the frieghter crew came in and really messed stuff up.

Yeah, good point. And the runway they landed on wasn't built until sometime when the losties were there because Kate and Sawyer helped build it. All of the Dharma stuff being around just made me question. You would think once the "others" took over after the purge, they would have gotten rid of at least the staff photos and the signs for new member orientation.
It is also clear that both islands exist in two separate times. So for Sun's group the small island is clearly in present day, or at least post 2004, but I dunno, still not sure about the mainland?
