This is what I think. This goes along with a major theory I have, but I think that the purpose of the runway was to make sure 316 landed safely.. later we'll find out the reasons why.

I thought the same thing when I saw that scene.

There has to be more of a reason why it was built on hydra island and not the main island. there has to be a reason the runway was short and they did crash to some degree. The copilot was not meant to survive (death by tree limb? ouch!) There will be some rhyme to this rythym.

At this point in time in the 70's Richard is pretty clueless to everything. I bet you that once Locke comes back with Sun and Lapidus he'll tell Richard about everything that has happened in the future.

That's how Richard knew to have the runway built, and knew to find Locke after Ethan shot him in the leg.

it was built on the hydra island becuase they knew the main island would be in a different time and the hyrda island would be in present time

The Hydland moved with the main island after Ben turned the wheel; they saw this from the helicopter. They Hydland and the main island have always been together, there just being shown in different times.

Okay, so if the runway was built specifically for this Flight, is it possible that the returning Losties, Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Sayid, team up with the hostiles... I mean, I am not sure how Locke is suppose to be able to talk to Richard and inform him of anything else because Richard is in 1977, and Locke is not.

I never even thought about the runway they built and didn't even know that was what they landed on it looked like sand to me that they landed on.

That's why Christian said they it was the start of their journey. Sun, Lapidus, and Locke still have to do something to get back to the 70's. What that is, I don't know. I'm going to wait for Christian to tell me.

I'm not so sure. Richard is not time jumping, he has been there the whole time, thus he should be there for Locke to talk to in 2007. The thing is because they are both in the present(2007) it would be a moot point.

Okay, I see what you are saying. Richard does exists in both time periods.

Each island is NOT in a different time. There are two different sets of islands. One in each dimension. One dimension exists in the 1977 period and the other in the 2007 period. They are existing like that simultaneously. I think that the journey Christian was talking about was that they will have to "bridge" the two dimensions so that they are in the same spacetime and then there will only be one dimension. Sun will then be reunited with Jin and Ben will be back in charge on the island.

I think what will happen is Sun will end up turning the wheel to get the 2 dimensions back together and will never get back together with Jin. I think I read somewhere on here the producers said they would never be reunited. So she will be off the island and will raise the baby without Jin.

was the runway built for this plane? if so, why do they need it to land safely? how did whoever commissioned the building of this runway (ben, richard, jacob?) know that it was going to be needed for flight 316 in the future? and why did they want whoever was on it to survive? are they indeed trying to change the past? This also brings up the question....did they then know that sawyer & co and consequently the O6 return specifically to 1977?

they also had the boats waiting. ben knew this? but he didnt know he would be kicked off the island and on the plane, right? he was surprised jacob wanted him to turn the wheel?

I think sun turning the wheel makes sense, I was also thinking that
