I was reading a thread about how ethans age was a little inconsistent considering that he was born in 1977, looked older, or atleast as old as ben, plus managed to obtain a medical degree etc.

I was thinking however that Charlottes age is much more inconsistent assuming that the little girl Farraday saw when they first join the DI in 1974 (she looks 6-7 or so already by then) it would make her almost 40 in 2004. I also remember reading something on lostpedia last year when her character was introduced saying she was 27 and born in 1979.... maybe it was not her? OR maybe a minor plot inconsistency.

just thought id share.

They talk about this on the official podcast this week. The little girl was Charlotte. When they first wrote the part of Charlotte, she was going to be much older (in her late 30's). When the younger Rebecca Mader got the part and was on set, she asked if Charlotte's birthday could be closer to her real one. Not thinking about the long term problems this might bring up later in the story, they made the change.

I found that podcast interesting I was thinking she took it upon herself to change her age and they did not pick it up in editing, maybe that is why she is dead.

Or maybe she got arrested for drink driving, off the set.:)

Glad you posted this. We have discussed this a lot since we saw little Charlotte and know we know for sure it was a mistake.

Def good catch re: podcast. I can't believe that as careful as they have been with trying to remain consistent that they would screw up on something so major. I must admit I find it very disappointing.:(

Great catch! I was so wrapped up in not buying Ethan being born in 1977 (since the actor who plays him was born in 1965), that I totally missed this. As you recall from season 4, when Locke was getting ready to kill Ben for shooting Charlotte (shortly after Locke captured her), Ben started spouting out information about her (parents names, where she graduated from college, etc.). Among that he said something like "her name is Charlotte Staples-Lewis, born in Essex England 1979...". I will always give the writers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to things that look like an oversight, but the ages for these 2 characters is going to be an interesting challenge for them to explain (if they decide to do so).

LOL I listened to the Podcast as well...that's a typical (no offense to those on here) girl thing to do lol to demand that their character be younger

It's a story, its FICTION....why should it matter how old someone "looks"... thats pure speculation/opinion. It doesn't matter how old someone "looks" the writers can make them any age though want, as long as you keep it in the realm of reasonable. (a small child cant be in his 20's...) Me personally I am 26 but easily get confused for 17 or 18.

I don't see what her issue of a few years was. In "Man Behind the Curtain" Michael Emmerson played had to be 20ish Ben in his flashbacks.
