I just have to say for all the rocket scientists in here and people talking about how posting boards are better than chat because you can check your posts and spelling this room has spelling and grammar that would make a fifth grader cringe.

You people may or may not be smart, your spelling is atrocious!
I have not noticed an improvement in either the grammar OR the intelligence of the posts in here over chat

If you're going to complain, and only advertise your chat room.. then why are you here? The only posts I see from you are, "lulz lol lyke.. visit my chat room. It pwns this place!" If people like this Forum more than a chat room. So be it. No need to attack their level of intelligence.

i hate bugging people about spelling and that, but a good reason to care a little bit about it is that posting in places like this helps you improve if you are self-conscious of it. if you were a bad speller before, writing in a forum might be a good opportunity to improve.

just like a chatting is usually a good way to learn how to type fast. so many people i know type fast and a lot of them do so in unorthodox ways and the reason they can do so is because they taught themselves how to type from having to keep up in conversations. i've learned that typing is actually a very useful skill in a lot of real world situations.

but i still think this place should have an official chatroom eventually. not because of the reasons MrsBoone says, but just because this forum is often used in ways a forum is not built for. The Barma comes to mind. it seems hard to have to keep refreshing the page just to see the most recent post and none of those comments need to be kept on the board for reading later. if you didn't read the post at the time it was posted it is very unlikely that you are anyone else will ever need to read it. this is the opposite of what a forum was built for. in that case you're probably just wasting database server space. it also leads to digressions in the middle of threads and it makes it harder to search the forum for old topics which leads to re-posting of the same questions. what you're looking for is real time communication and that's what a chatroom is for.

lostlindy, i do not know why you are attacking me personally now. i just said i personally don't care about it, i just lamented that you can help yourself improve your spelling if you care to think of it. by the way, what do you think about my comments about incorrect usage of a forum and wasting server resources?

I think there should be a chat feature here for people who like that. I'd probably tend to stick to the Barma but I don't see any reason not to have both.
