Hey all! This is my first time on the forum, and I figured I'd see what some of you think about the Walt situation. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere.

It seems pretty obvious that Walt was in part written off of the show during Season 2 due to the fact that he was a young boy, and years of filming would show in his growth when they are only on the island for several months, and this could have been problematic.

Now, we have seen him return in last seasons finale to deliver Locke some guidance. It was clear that he had aged since we had last seen him, but I figure that for the most part this fact would be glanced over by most for such a brief cameo.

But now we have the comments by Locke about Walt appearing before him, and he made sure to mention that he was "taller". Does this seem to be just to cover up the fact that he has aged in real life and not have audiences peeved, or does this signify something greater you think?

It seemed like it had to be more than just a throwaway comment, especially now that it is pretty much positively clear that they are in a different time than the rest of the world, whether it is the 30+ minutes or more. Maybe enough time has passed off the island to let him age, and it is Walt possibly speaking at that moment through telepathy? Or maybe he is sending advice/warnings from the future?

Thoughts?

I think he may be able to jump yo different places. Maybe even in different times, possibly somewhat like Miles. I think it's a future Walt though.

i think since the actor is growing up in real life that the writers definatly tried to throw that into the plot some how. did they ever explain what happened to walt after him and his dad left. i guess we'll find out when micheal comes back this season! dun dun DUN!!!

They never did explain what happened to them. I for one can't wait to find out. I'm assuming it's the future Walt just by the comment Locke made about it being a taller Walt.

I believe when they reintroduce Michael they'll show Walt's and his flashback of leaving the island on the boat. At least I really hope so. Plus I believe he's Ben's man on the freighter.

Well, I hope the writers aren't thinking that we're Lost fans and we'll believe anything! There has to be a really good tie-in for this not to be dumb.I can tell by these forums that there's a whole lot of thinkin' going on by fairly intelligent people. If the storyline didn't have so many blurred edges I probably wouldn't have stuck with it these 4 years.I wonder if the writers ever read these posts to get new ideas about where to take it next, ya' know?Welcome, friend!

I'm kinda torn on this one. It could go either way. Walt appearing taller due to some anomaly/experience; or the writers just having fun and keeping up with the fans' observations. I'm happy with the latter.

If a 2 min lapse on the island is equal to 31 minutes off of the island, that means with them having been only on the island for 100 days just over 4 years have gone by in the outside world. Maybe that will account for Walt growing older...

yes, about your time math. this is what I was thinking but I could never articulate the math behind my thoughts. Some were saying that the island was only 31 mins 'behind' the rest of the word but I think you're onto something here. Can you explain how you came to 4 years?

This is how I'd come up with that:

You could say that the conversation between Daniel and the freighter that 2 minutes or so passed when the missile was launched and landed according to the freighter. In actuality, according to the islands time, it took 31 minutes. So you could say that the normal time is 15 times faster than the island's time.

Jack said it's been 100 days since he saw a baseball game, so we'll just assume that means 100 days on the island.

100 days on the island would be 1500 days normal time. (remember, normal time is 15 times faster as described above)

1500 days is approximately 4 years and a couple days.

thats a really good way of explaining it and ties in with a few theories.

I certainly hope Michael is the one Ben was talking about when he said he had a man on the boat. Cause if he's not Jin will have to beat him down again for betraying them and leaving them on the island.

It might also explain why Walt brought the message to Locke, it sure seemed like a warning, the very next thing John did was knife Naomi.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but lets say that time travels 15 times faster in real life than on the island. Then doesnt that mean that roussou has been on the island for 240 years? (which is 16 years x 15) And yet, she seems modern enough, so this wouldnt make sense. So it doens't seem like time is traveling 15 times faster in the real world; just that it is 31 or however many minutes behind.

Just my 2 cents

I agree steeler fan. Wait did I just agree with a Steelers fan? A Patriots fan agreeing with a Steelers fan. Ha ha. But That does seem to throw a monkey wrench into that theory. Plus she had Alex 16 years ago and Alex is 16. Not sure what that means but whatever.

Exactly. And that is one of the reasons I don't like the theory myself. There are too many big gaps - like Rousseau - to successfully explain everything.

Good point about Rousseau... and Alex has definetly gotten older in the last 16 years. But then she was not conceived on the island if I am not mistaken so maybe that has something to do with it.
