I know I’m rehashing old material as the discussions seem to be focusing on newer topics, but I have been thinking about this for a while.

I am hoping that some of your can help me understand what’s the deal with Walt? I have been thinking about this and I just can’t even begin to get my mind around it. The last time we saw what we believe to be the real live Walt was when he left the island with his father. So what’s behind his returning first to Shannon, then Locke in the pit. I am wondering if its Walt and his ability to “transport” himself or his image to, from and across the island. Is it ol’ smokey posing as Walt to get a point across? In either case why?

well walt is 'special' although we dont know the full extent of his abilities. it does seem that he is able to manifest himself or project himself to others. however, just as you said, there have been other apparitions on the island and we dont know if this is via jacob, smokie or if they are just ghosts of sorts so it could well be another force posing as walt.

I just can't help but think that Walt and Michael are still on the island or the Others "private" island or somewhere other than "home". I remember Ben saying to the Others that he let them go because he keeps his word. At least he wanted his Other followers to believe this as fact. But, if Michael and Walt were to return to "civilization", how would they explain the fact that they were on the plane that was subsequently and suposedly discovered at the bottom of the ocean but they somehow made it out. I know I am rambling, but I'd like to think I'm just thinking outloud or at least in writing, so that my fellow lost compatriots can provide me with some insight.
