Certain characters were killed of the show due to the actor wanting to end their contract. In a series like this one, with remarkable characters, you have to believe that some would've had much more significant roles had the actor stayed on the show. I know that Dominic Monaghan (Charlie) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Mr. Eko) were two of these actors (not sure on anyone else at this time), and great characters for this show.
Charlie- it's hard to say where his character would've gone because the whole third season was about him dying, which finally happened in the finale. (if anyone has any ideas feel free to add them)
Mr. Eko- a Nigerian warlord turned priest is not a character to kill off after one season. The way I saw Eko's future was that after proving Locke wrong about "the button", Locke would trust him completely, making him sort of an advisor (like Alpert to The Others leaders). And being that it's Eko, I could also see him being a protector/enforcer for Locke and the other survivors.
These are just random thoughts that I wanted input on and didn't know which forum to put it under.
