View Full Version : Sayid & Eko Parallels?

It occurred to me today that as children, Sayid and Eko shared a similar experience and inclination.

Sayid's brother was instructed by an authority figure (father) to take an innocent life (yeah I know - it's just a chicken). Sayid steps up and does the deed in place of his brother.

Eko's brother was instructed by an authority figure (the militant rebel leader) to take an innocent life (a man of God as I recall?). Eko steps in to take the gun and does the deed in place of his brother.

Any comments or observations to share - or just another newbie's shot in the dark?

Well observed,I agree you have two important similarities between them.

Also they both end up staying bad guys/killers who later try to find some means of penance.

Nice one, although, particularly after watching the latest episode a thought did cross my mind. Why is sayids character being a Iraqi, portrayed as a killer and Iraqi people portrayed in a poor light by the American writers? A certain degree of prejudice?

You could say even the same for Mr Ekko.
On the other hand Ben is nor Iraqi nor Black but he is not portrayed as the nice American either....on the contrary....
And nearly all the characters have killed at least once.....except Jack Rose and Claire I think.

Nice catch Dr. Memory. You certainly got the mind and MEMORY to handle all the things that we Lost fans have to remember on this show, wether it's a character connection or one of the many mysteries of the best show ever to grace the television screen.

Fair point, yet most of the other characters have been given some kind of redemption, will our killer chum get his chance? not a murder but jack did finish of the marshall, so he has killed someone. Mick was black and look what happend to him. A intresting debate.
