I am amazed at how Jack has gone from leading the O6 to just a janitor(a nobody) in Dharma.
He has been virtually useless in the last 3 episodes, still in the dark about why he came back. The only useful thing he did was to help put out the fire.

Saywer and Juliette were the ones who came up with the job at DI. They propbrably didn't want everything wondering why bring in another doctor when they have one already.....putting him under the radar.....

Just posted this on another thread about Jack, but it seems to fit here also:
I thought it was interesting because in one episode both of Jack's old girlfriends get pissed at him over BEN.....and Jack thought things were bad on the mainland...hahahahaha.
I do agree that TPTB are just tearing Jack down only to build him up again next season.

Where was this docter when Juliet needed him/her?
Juliet is officially a mechanic, and even before she was a fertility specialist with no real experience of surgery.

Okay thanks but it is actually called "the Looking glass".
I think you are getting it confused with "the Lamp post",which is where Ms Hawking told the O6 how to get back to the island.

BINGO!!!!!!! Jack will make his comeback sometime soon. He is absorbing everything right now and has no intention of jumping into any leadership position right now. Heck ,if he tries to save Ben last night, not only would he alter the life of Ben, he would have blown his cover. He's going to be just fine

Thanks for all your replies.
I still can't get over how unexpected, weird and somewhat funny it is to see the most dominant character on the show since the beginning be reduced to just a workman in the background.
It is part of the writers' genius to do somethng like this.
They've done pretty much the same to Kate and Hurley too.

Not just yet anyway, but eventually they will be found out or just tell the truth.
Maybe Sawyer gave Jack that job, to make the point of who's in charge now....

I reckon this is all leading up to him being needed for something important again. But I'm enjoying Sawyer being in charge! Anything to piss Jack off is good! :)

Jack will be back indeed, as much as I don't like his character, the show is about him.

yesss... notice the way he spoke (that he was supposed to come back to the island for a purpose, but he didnt know what that purpose was yet) resembles locke's behaviour a few seasons back!
I thought it was a change of character from the scientific/having all the answers jack to act as if he knew no answers and was relying on fate, which I associate with locke.
maybe its irrelevant though ?

Good comparison,I think it is very relevant especially since Jack was so adamant not to go back, then the dramatic emotional change!
Suddenly Jack sees the obituary and is so upset at Locke's death that he tries to commit suicide.
I pretty much agree with your thinking here.
