Everyone seems to be assuming Eloise is Daniel's mom, but has that been shown to be a fact yet? If it has, I don't recall the scene.

She hasn't come out and said she was Daniel's mom, but Desmond showed up at the Lamp Post. He told Widmore he needed to see Daniel's mother, and that's where Widmore sent him.

Yeah, so we believe Widmore wanted to help Desmond? Not so much.

What I know for a fact is that Widmore wanted Desmond to go meet Eloise, but I really am not convinced yet that she is actually the one Faraday wanted Desmond to find - his mother.

It's a nagging little detail that I think may have significance later. I think it's very telling that when Daniel was about to give Desmond his mom's name, we never heard it because time shifted again.

Good thinking,I didn't expect Ms Hawking to be Faraday's mother either.
Faraday never told Desmond exactly how she could help.
Besides why does she have a different last name?
Faraday's mother could be someone else,as he did say she was in Oxford.
How would Widmore know her whereabouts better than Faraday?

I think you are onto something here.

Did Desmond recognize Eloise (who he seemed to assume was Daniel's mom) as the woman in the jewelry store who showed him Redshoes death? I need to watch the epi again.

Yeah he sure did recognise her and told everyone else how she ruined 3 years of his life by making him leave Penny and eventually end up on the island.
When she told him the island wasn't done with him yet,he walked away in disgust saying,"the island may not be done with me,but I am done with the island"!

We have not seen him since and anxiously await his return.

The main thing I've been wondering about is if Eloise Hawking is Daniel's mother and Charles Widmore is his father, where did he get the last name "Faraday"

I think Ms hawking might have gone back in time got pregnant by Michael Faraday and she went back to the time where she gave birht toDan so that it coincides wit hhim being the age he is. JK I think he chose it in homage to Michael Faraday, another scientist.

i'm sorry i don't get it. there are a trillion and one mysteries on this show, this is not one of them.

first of all, in the variable, we are in fact told that hawking is faraday's mom, she raises him, she puts him through school, meets up with him at graduation, gives him a journal, hates his girlfriend, send him back to the island, etc.

then when faraday show's up in dharmaville he wants to be taken to his mother, remember "your mother is an Other?"

then, widmore says her "he is my son TOO." and she slaps him. as if he has no right to say that because he did not raise him like she did. i think it has been told to us straight out.

the reason fraday was cut off with a flash before he told demond the name of his mother is because we, the audience, did not know then that hawking was his mom. we - being the fans- strongly guessed and at that time assumed as much, but after that we were in fact told that she is his mother.

i do think that anything can happen on this show, but imho i think the revelation that she is not really his mother won't happen. why would it?

if she found out that she was not his mother then she can let go of the guilt of killing her own son.

widmore helped desmond because he knows des is involved with the losties and charles clearly has a stake in locke (and perhaps the others) getting back to the island. I think a lot will go down, but this will not be one.

Don't you remember there is a scene where Daniel, as a child, is practicing the piano and his mother is there in the background and she is Eloise ?

Remember right before Daniel gets killed. He's talking with Sawyer et al and says I need to go find the others. They ask why? He says he met a lady when they saw the bomb and that was his mother. As he is dyeing he tells her you, "You knew, you always knew". Name before and after are confirmed as Eloise. After his death, she confirms seeming him from the past. Its all direct circumstantial evidence and innuendo like everthing else in the show, but it seems pretty open and shut.

She also says that Daniel is her son when they are in the Lampost doesn't she? Jack asks or says something about him I think.

Looks like a Newbie with 5 posts resurrected it yesterday to ask how Faraday got his last name. But some of us (like me) were fooled into thinking it was a recent post questioning if E. was D.'s mother. :o end of story.

I think someone else responded to it and so it becomes a thread open for discussion again. If you look in the top left corner of each post, basically above the Avatar it tells youwhen the thread was originally posted. If someone doesnt know this they will respond as if it was just brought up. You arent the only one to do this and I dont think I saw it on the former Forum but maybe a new feature since back up.
