If the Temple is a place where Ben was helped/healed, why not take the mothers and babies with fertility problems to the Temple? I know Richard went rogue and "doesn't answer to the leaders" but if he took Ben there why not take these people who need it the most?

credit to NappyP with the idea!

hmm well for one we dont know exactly what the temple douse or how it heals someone..so it might not be able to heal all sorts of problems like the women dieng in there second trimester..i think that the fertity problem is somthing coused by the "incedent" and that cant be healed..or on the other hand it might be able to help them but it could change them like richard said it would change ben and that we wouldnt be the same

well if it is indeed something to do with resurrection..maybe it cant resurrect both a mother and a foetus.

however, what if the fertility issue is more related to the fact that these pregnant woman who are dying have themselves been resurrected? remember richard showing juliette the scan pictures? and she said one looked like the womb of a seventy year old woman when in fact it was someone who was 27 or somewhere around that age.

just a thought!

i think that the problem with pregnancy could be due to the incident, not so much an effect of the gas but as the island punishing for the act of the incident. IDK. But it might make sense as to why the temple can't heal them, and the reason why the 77's are where they are...

oohh bunny well remembered re the scans.

What a great idea bunny! I never really thought about that before.. So do you think that the problem with pregnancies are just occurring to the 'other' women?? After all, we have never actually seen a woman die during her pregnancy, just heard about it. it's possible Juliet didn't know the complete story in the first place and maybe Sun wouldn't have had problems at all. Hmmm. IDK... the problem is not with conception, it's an issue with carrying to term, correct? so if in fact the pregnant women who died were 'resurrected' others/hostiles maybe there would be a connection to the age of the womb vs. the age of the woman. But then again, if the woman who appeared to be in her late 20's had a womb of a 70 yr old woman, how could she have even gotten pregnant in the first place? Wouldn't a woman of that age be unable to conceive anyways? It seems to me if the pregnancy issue has anything to do with the temple then Juliet probably couldn't have helped anyways and Richard and Ben would know that. you got my wheels spinning! ill have to research Juliet's epi's now.

One line I discovered that I found interesting was in "Maternity Leave" Season 2 - Sun tells Claire "A mother should never leave her baby".. but then she leaves hers in season 5 to go back to the island..

Sort of OT, but whatever..

i think thats just a guess. but yeah, at first i thought that it was related to the purge (and maybe still is) but just with some ideas being thrown around, i wondered if it was possibly something else.

wouldnt it be annoying if they never answered this for us??

SO, any more ideas on the reason the Others won't take mothers/babies to the Temple is? It's obviously not a light matter to just waltz into the Temple and grab a life pack ( like on a video game). Saving the Lives of their people seems to be of utmost impostance. Juiles was branded for ending the life of and Other. Why not take him to the Temple too?

I don't think they can.. I think that women not being able to have babies has something to do with the Temple.. maybe not the Temple exactly, but something to do with maybe using the Island for personal gain or something.. I've been thinking about it for a while, but I don't totally have the thoughts straight in my head, so there's no way I can explain them. But I feel like they have birthing problems on the Island because of something going "wrong".. maybe it happened after the Purge.. blah, I don't know, like I said, I can't really explain my thoughts to myself!

remember how Locke and the French team were pulled into cerebral vents? except Locke didnt loose his arm.

I think the temple is where the smokie takes you and gives you a re-birth. The french team seemed like new people, and Locke has constantly been looking for his place.

The island knows how important Claire and her baby are, and give her this "pass" to give birth on island. This is accomplished by taking them into the temple, the place of rebirth.

this benefits the island in two ways. Aaron and his destiny will be achieved because he lives (hopefully we see what his destiny is), and brings father and daughter together (Christian and Claire) as a team who now work for Jacob (at least hang out in his shack).

Claire would be willing to leave her baby behind in the jungle if she is working for the island/jacob/smokie. She saw the beautiful light that Locke described, and has nothing to fear. This is the sacrifice the island demanded.

Thanks for the props 5star!

as for the fertility stuff, i have yet to cast my vote. i need to know more about amy/ethan combo. it seems like they are special much like Claire/Aaron combo.

i think the omni present island has god like powers (As we all know), and took birthing away from the island as a result of something bad that it's followers did.

I am adding a newly formed thought on to an old theory I believed about the island and making it relevant to this thread. So bare with me a little but if you'll bite, here goes...

So I beleive that the island was once in a semi-perm state of being in one year. The one year 96 (don't know why... maybe cuz of the Des thing but newhoo) was on continuous rotation. The button pushing made this possible. But after Des turned the key no more 96 and Sun can get preggers. (although she leaves to have the baby... maybe Ji Yeon is supposed to be on the island too.. IDK still a work in progress, I guess.)

So when any female becomes preggers she can't make it past the first trimester because she was not preggo that year and her body does not know how to adjust and she dies. Ben wanted to be able to keep the island in the same time but still produce a large society. This is why Jules was needed... find out how to do the imposible with pregnancy.

So the fertility issue happens I beleive after the purge and as a result of trying to keep the island in one place, lost in time. Does this even make sense?!?...

This is all interesting.
I still rather think they can't carry to term because of the irregular time on the island... slower... something happens inutero...I think.

And I don't understand why the island would be punishing the Others that way because of the Purge when the Others are the protectors of the island and the DI were the intruders who wanted to capitalize on the islands secrets.

Remember the x-ray Richard showed Juliet in Portland when he was recruiting her? Something about a uterus that looked 70ish in a 27 year old? Hmmm. Reincarnation anyone? Or, it still could be that the island time is different than the real world time, like I've been screaming, and it is a 1:3 ratio. Let's see, 3 x 27 = 81? Why yes, it is..........sounds kinda close maybe?

Sun was always wild, just under the surface. When she was a kid she lied and said the housekeeper broke that thing she broke --and that turned out o.k. for her. She was having the affair with the bald guy, she was learning English, she had a CA driver's license to start her new life, so the Island didn't change her, she's always been cool. Even dating Jin was against the rules (but then she got into more than she bargained for but she was handling it).

This might be totally off the wall, but, is it possible that even though people don't appear to age, some organs in their bodies do? For example, kids that dont have their tonsils out still have them wither and no longer are at risk of infections in them. Also, since women go through menopause and lose the ability to concieve, their organs are not needed by the body so they are sacficed to keep the rest of the body young.

I just throw this out. I'm not sure I'm explaining it right.

Or that their appearance never ages after a certain point but they do internally until they have to be reborn and repeat the process? IDK. But it is definitly something to think about.
