I think Jacob is actually Daniel Faraday.

Faraday is the only one on the island who knows how it really works. We know that he's time traveled himself by his interactions with Desmond (and the fact that Des is his constant). In the episode where the Oceanic 6 meet Eloise to go back, Eloise says that "a scientist [I think Faraday] figured out how to determine with a high probability of accuracy where the island is physically located at a given time". Now we see Faraday's on the island and maybe going a little crazy - he tells Des to relay to Eloise that they need help...

So, maybe, Faraday pulls a Rousseau, goes crazy, leaves Dharmaville, builds a cabin in the woods and slowly evolves into Jacob...

Except I don't think Rousseau went crazy. The rest of the people who were with her went nuts, but she didn't. But wasn't Faraday on the island when Hurley say Jacob at the cabin?

If Faraday is Jacob, then in present day - Jacob would be the older version of Faraday (having gone through the time skips to 1977 and then getting bit by were-polar bears which turned him into Jacob & the Smoke Monster) while present day Faraday is the younger version.

How come the OTHERS never talk of Jacob, they always report to Albert Rupert or Ben?

LOL! Actually, it was Little Miss Muffet and she was eating curds and whey....not oatmeal on a grassy hilltop! I believe it was HER tuffet. Sheesh!!

Incy Wincy climbed up the waterspout, Chester. While his journey was commendable and obviously central to the understanding of Lost, it's a completely different arachnid. :p

That wasn't Incy with the Muffet chick?

I suppose it's possible they had a rendezvous I am unaware of but I don't believe it's common knowledge. The "Muffet chick" (as you so eloquently put it, you Renaissance man) had an encounter with a nameless spider who sat down beside her and scared Miss Muffet away. I think it is a HUGE leap to assume it was Incy Wincy and it's totally racist to implicate him as said spider. They may all look alike but shouldn't be lumped together in the same group!!

Incy Wincy's story is one of triumph over adversity. He climbed the spout, down came the rain and washed that spider out. Did he give up? No! He waited until the sun dried up all the rain and he just climbed right back up that spout! It's a beautiful story and I, for one, believe that the world would be a better place if we all had that kind of tenacity and "can do" spirit.

What makes you think the spider who sat down beside....Miss Muffet didn't have a name? I think it's quite reasonable to expect that the story of Incy Wincy and ...Miss Muffet is actually the same story told from two different perspectives. He only had to go up the spout becuase some spoiled brat came over and sat on his tuffet (which didn't really concern him initially, until she had to go make a big song and dance about it). Just because she goes over to visit her grandmother once a month and gets "treated" to some curds and whey, doesn't mean she can claim ownership of the tuffet. A tuffet which happens to be, from one perspective, the home of a "nameless" spider. I think it's obvious that any spider who is using a water spout must have just recently been evacuated from its usual place of residence. And the lesson Incy, and everyone else, should have learned from his exercise, is that trying to live in a functioning water spout, is a pretty silly idea.

:D

ROFL! It seemed like it was difficult....almost painful for you to stop calling her the Muffet chick!!

So your supposition is that Incy Wincy was a homeless spider? A vagabond, so to speak? That's an interesting theory, Chester. If I can play devil's advocate for a moment, I would like to suggest that neither of us knows what was at the top of the waterspout, right? You do seem to know WAY more of the story than I do (IE: ownership of the tuffet, the secret dance portion of the story, Granny Muffet being the curds and way chef, etc..) but isn't it possible that the spout leads to some type of spider Narnia? Perhaps the entire Wincy clan lives up there and he was just trying to make it to the promised land? I think it's just way too easy to assume that, just because arachnid minds are microscopic, that Incy isn't capable of greatness! Give the little fella a little credit?!

TPTB mentioned that we see Jacob in the first episode in a non-speaking role so I dont recall seeing Faraday until 3 seasons later. I am not convinced its him. The scene where he is in the orchid i believe is when they time skipped back to 1977 and he lands a job there.

Well, I would venture to guess that at the top of the water spout was some kind of water catchment funnel that directs all the water down through the spout when the rains come. I don't need to assume any limitations in Incy's mind, his behaviour in repeatedly trying to live in such an unlivable environment speaks for itself. Unless of course there's a spider Narnia is up there - but that's a completely different story, I don't know what that's got to do with LOST.

Don't mean to interupt the whole spider defense/glorification going on in this post, but I highly doubt that Jacob is Farraday. The others knew about Jacob long before Farraday was on the island (except for the short term flash when they saw the statue). When Locke spoke with Richard back in the 1950's Richard already knew who Jacob was and that was a good 25 years before Daniel was stuck in DI times.

Besides, EVERYONE knons who Jacob already is. It is so obvious. Simply look at my avatar for your answer (sarcasm).;)

It wasn't Faraday that time traveled and met Desmond, it was Desmond that time traveled and met Faraday, Faraday made him his constant because he knew him in both times. Remember Faraday didn't believe him at first. But that is puzzling too because Faraday told Desmond his constant had to be something or someone he loved in both times, hence Penny. So did Faraday love Desmond?
My take on Jacob is that it is Jack. I think Jack will go back in time, to when the four toed statue was erect, and somehow he becomes Jacob, probably no Jacks back then in ancient times, so he called himself Jacob. If it is Jack (or Locke, one of the two I think) he wouldn't want all the ones that know him in present time to know it is him so he won't let them see him. I still have to figure out how he could still be alive after all those years/centuries. Also Christian is standing in or speaking for Jacob, who better to pick to speak for you than your own Dad. And Claire is with Christian too, maybe it's a family thing
If Jacob is Locke, he already died once, maybe he doesn't age anymore. He does seem to have a glow about him, Richard even noticed it in last weeks episode.
I think everything that happened on the island from the time of the toed statue is due to the actions of the survivors traveling through time. Can't wait for next episode and it will be a long year waiting for the next season.

Jake is the short version of Jacob, I was just saying that the name Jack is sort of similar to the name Jacob, maybe someone calls him Jack and the peeps in ancient times interpret it as Jacob as they have never heard the name Jack before, just throwing my ideas out there and I do think too much sometimes, but that's one of my theories and I'm stickin to it, lol:D

I think Jacob is Jacob with a story to be told. I don't believe the Jacob we saw visit Jack Kate Sawyer Sayid Sun and Jin was Jacob. I think it was the anti-jacob. Ben never spoke to Jacob the only one who supposedly had was Richard never Ben. I think any info Ben ever got was from the anti-Jacob he was just a small pawn in a bigger game. Ben could summon the 'smoke' from his closet and it didnt punish him for the evil he did because i think the smoke is the anti-Jacob somethin happend between Jacob and the man he was talkin to on the beach. We know the other man was forbidden to kill Jacob so he needed to find others to do it for him. I believe the anti jacob somehow took the form of the black smoke??

really Jacob is the "madusa spider" I thought TPTB said the medusa spider that bit Nikki was actually smokie. I need to look it up where I read or saw that, possibly in a podcast. But you have it all figured out whats happening n the show. So when the final season starts what will you be watching?

Looked it up and found this on http://www.squidoo.com/lostmonster
What Is The Smoke Monster?
At this point we don't know what Smokey is. What we do know is:
It appears to live underground.
It can read/scan minds and "download" the information for future use.
It sometimes produces brief flashes of bright light.
It can take on the form of images from a person's past.
The Dharma Initiative may have called it Cerberus (the three-headed guard dog of Hell).
Ben seems to be able to control it.
It sometimes attacks people and has killed.
It makes a variety of loud noises and frequently rustles foliage and uproots trees as it moves.
Damon Lindelof has said it is NOT made up of nanobots.
Manifestations of the Monster included Yemi, the Medusa Spider that bit Nikki, and some of Walt's appearances while he was not with the Survivors.
It seems to work as a security system for the Island.
It seems to judge people on whether they are good or bad (or it reflects the person's own judgement of themselves?).
It doesn't like the sonar fence.

Jacob is Jacob. And he loves you.

There will be resolution to "who" Jacob is and how it is related to the WEB that seems to be our story.

However if Jacob is someone related to the Oceanic he would be Aaron.
-psychic dude flipped when he read Claire
-the father figure tied into Aaron's life would be Charlie a dissendent of fishermen
-Claire & Charlies dreams involved "saving" Aaron and a creepy J.L.
-AAron would be the family tie that pulls Christian & Jack into the story
-Etc., etc.

I know this is trivial but I think Charlie's father was a butcher....remember his dream sequence of him and Liam as children....the piano....Charlie being told over and over...."You have to save us, Charlie. You have to save your family".....and the image of his father butchering meat on a block??

BTW, isn't it great how the dialogue from the dream foreshadowed Charlie rescuing his "family" on the island? That was really great in hindsight....and that's the best way to watch this series....hindsight....all over again! lol. Oh, it was Jin's father that was the fisherman.

Well, sometimes I can understand Spanish (that's from watching too many Spanish movies), and a little bit of French, but basically I can fluently speak only Serbian and English.
Yep, our language is unique, although people in the region speak the same language but call it differently (ex. Serbian and Croatian - are basically the same). Oh yeah, I speak Macedonian too. It's similar to Serbian, but it's a different language nevertheless.

I don't know about spitting, but majority of Canada is English speaking, and basically only in Quebec they speak French. But the French there differs a lot from the French spoken in France... it's all in the accent. There are some disagreements, the french-canadians "want" to separate, and yet, every time they have a referendum on this subject, majority of the people vote NO. Go figure!

see again these cultural diff can lead to misunderstanding but great that we can clear this up so yet again avoiding another "incident". incy means tiny and itsy means tiny we say incy wincy u say itsy bits, point is we are both talking bout the spider oooooo spiderman
