Sorry if this has been mentioned before...but Alex definitely says the letter k after John's name when she is threatening Ben in the temple.. This made me think the k stands for ka which I have posted about before and the ka is the vital essence of John Locke. So it may be that what has returned to the island is John's vital essence (or a person's double!!!) and Ben is not to try to kill John's ka. Smokie must have the power to destroy anyone or anything's ka and Smokie would be capable of making someone truly everlastingly dead!! Ben is probably a ka also (as Richard said he would be changed forever) and that is why he feared the judgement so much. His essence could be anihilated forever. What do you think?

The temple could be a mortuary temple:

"Mortuary temples were called hwt, which means 'millions of years' and this helped to explain their function. The ancient Egyptians believed that the spirit of an individual, called the ka, came into existence at birth and was intimately linked to the physical body during life and after death, when it continued to need sustenance in the form of offerings of food and drink (John ate a mango, Ben drank water) Anubis is offering Smokie something. In a royal mortuary temple, offerings were presented daily for the king's ka, and in theory this was to continue in perpetuity.

"The mortuary temples were served by priests (Richard, the others?) who officiated in various capacities. While some presented the ka statue of the deceased king with offerings to satisfy his physical needs, others (the Others?)
were involved in the running of the temple estates or engaging in trade to finance the mortuary cult."

Quoted from the book: Ancient Egypt by Lorna Oakes and Lucia Gahlin
(I believe )the large statue is of the lioness goddess, Sekhmet, who was feared as the bringer of disease, paradoxically she became associated with healing because of the need to appease her wrath. The title 'Priest of Sekhmet' became synonymous with 'doctor'."

Also, our Lost temple contained niches with what appeared to be statues or funerary items of some kind. Ben also put a picture of Alex in his pocket, before the judgement ceremony which suggested to me he was using it as an amulet or charm to help him through the "weighing of the heart" judgement ritual.

According to the transcript on lostpedia she doesn't say John K

ALEX: Daddy?

BEN: Alex.

ALEX: Hi, Dad.

BEN: Ohh, Alex. I'm so, so sorry. It was all my fault.

ALEX: I know. Listen to me, you bastard! I know that you're already planning to kill John again, and I want you to know that if you so much as touch him, I will hunt you down and destroy you. You will listen to every word John Locke says, and you will follow his every order. Do you understand?

[Ben nods, fear-stricken.]

ALEX: Say it! Say you'll follow him.

BEN: Yes, I will. I'll follow him. I swear. [Whimpers]

LOCKE: Ben? Ben! Ben?

[Ben looks up from the chamber below.]

LOCKE: What happened?

BEN: It let me live.

Yeah I didn't catch the ka thing at all. I'm pretty sure she said John Locke. Not sure if you are trying to find something that is not there, but I hate to say you are completely off on this one :)

Thanks for your input!:) My husband and I watched the scene several times and all that we heard was the K after John's name. Whether that was a sound error of some kind, we're going deaf, or the producers did that on purpose, I can't say. But even given the written dialogue (thanks for that) I am going to stick with the latest John being his double or ka that has come back to the island. It still fits IMO with Ben's judgement and the funerary temple with images of Anubis, possibly the eye of Osirus, offerings, etc. Someone said they thought that it looked like something with wings next to the single eye. Others have said it's s defect in the wall. IDK. I read that as part of the myth of Osiris goddesses disguised as kites (birds) beat their wings to enable Osiris to breathe again and to be restored to life. All in all we have so much Egyptian myth material to draw from and a myriad of gods and symbols to theorize about that it could keep us all very busy from now to eternity!!LOL :)

P.S. I am not offended if you disagree or if something was missed by me. I mentioned the reverse numbers in the grocery store last episode. Someone dismissed it out of hand and said it was just a mirror. Now it is being mentioned as another special effect put there by the show possibly relating to an older theory that I read some time ago called mirrormattermoon.

We mostly put our theories and opinions out here. I have just as much a chance of being wrong as I am at being right. Look up the ka yourself, online. The writers didn't pull all of this stuff out of thin air. They are clever but they use some basic ideas on Lost that they base on true mythology, ancient history, philosophy, psychology, physics, magic, rituals, and so on. John is his essence and he is forever changed. If he is ka, then fine, If not then this theory is ka ka, right?LOL:D

glad to read this (I was close to post a question about what exactly she said). I'm not a native speaker and assumed that I would miss an important bit of info so I played the scene over and over again - but what I heard was JOHN-KEN. Not that it would make any sense to me... Do you pronounce your Ka like Ken?

Sorry Beach, but I don't know what you're hearing. There are two times that Alex says John:

1: I know you're already planning to kill John again.

2: You will listen to every word John Locke says.

Both phrases sound very clear to what she's saying, and she's not saying John "K" either time.

ricorose, you are in my Say What? club.:) thanks!! I think it may be pronounced Kaw like the aw in raw and the au in caught. I know that many people heard Alex say John Locke. I'm confused as to why 3 of us heard something different. I'm in sync with the script; it just didn't come across that way on my TV and we specifically rewatched it. It's just peculiar. Thanks Ort, for the heads up---rico and the other 2 of us are not crazy, so it must be a defect of some kind. I certainly don't understand it!! Cue eerie music......E-- Aw--Oh.
