Lapidus told Ben that they met a man named Christian who told them to wait in the house. Does Ben know who Christian is? Why wasn't he more suspicious?
Did John talk to Christian in the jungle?
What is the significance of Penny's boat's name -- Our Mutual Friend. I checked anagrams, and nothing great. But you can make: a dutiful mourner. Who is their mutual friend?
What did Widmore do after Ben called him to say he was going to kill Penny? Did Widmore put together the 316 (Ilana) team just then?

I wondered that - I felt that Ben knows more about Christian than he was letting on - unless he knew Christian was Jack's dad from the files he has on everyone.
Dont' know what john was upto in the jungle.
Our Mutual Friend was the name of the last book Desmond was going to read before he died and the book he kept a picture of him and Penny in (we see it just before the hatch blows up in Season 2/3?)
I reckon Widmore did put the 316 team together after the call.

Why was the boat dock in one piece? We clearly saw Locke blow the sub up there, and also the dock blow up as well. But now last night, the entire dock was shown with no damage at all except for a few fallen lamps.

Our Mutual Friend was the book Desmond carried around.
(The last book he'll read before he dies.)

I think that Ben may have just known about Christian from the files that he'd told Mikhial to gather on the Losties. Jack's file did seem to have a lot of stuff in it. Richard gave Locke Sawyer's file and found out about his connection to him. And Ben said he knew how Locke ended up in his wheelchair.
Didn't catch the name of Penny's boat. I believe 'Our Mutual Friend' is the book by Charles Dickens that Desmond claimed was the last book he was ever going to read, but my memory is a bit foggy so I could be wrong.

its hard to get a read from Ben's facial expressions, but there's not much Ben Linus DOESN"T know, so i'd say he knows about CS.
Did John talk to Christian in the jungle?
Ben said, " whats about to come out of that jungle, I can't control"
I was convinced VINCENT was gonna run out.:( it would have been awesome.)

the thing i dont understand about smokie is that Ben has to pull the plug on the drain to summon it, but what about the time that smokie killed Mr Eko, etc. Did someone pull the drain plug then too?

I would say that Ben and Widmore's mutual friend would be Eloise Hawking. Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt Locke find out about her and the lamppost from Widmore? And Ben and Ms. Hawking seemed pretty buddy buddy at the lamppost.
Maybe Widmore called Eloise after he got that call from Ben and found out about Ajira through her.

How do you figure that, Sayid is drinking with Ilana after the meeting on the docks with Ben and Jack, Ben does not call Widmore for at least another day. Widmore cannot be responsible for Ilana unless he was planning Sayids capture from earlier on.

I think Ben would know about Christian, to an extent. He would know pretty much everyone on the island, including the Others (since he was there leader), Danielle Rousseau and the survivors of 815 (since he had Mikhail get a flight manifest). I would think he would knew that Jack brought his father, Christian, to the island in a casket. At that point, he also knew that John was resurrected by the island, so I think he would be able to piece together that 'the man named Christian' was Jack's dad, brought back from the dead to do the island's bidding, unless more people found a way to the island in the 3 years he was absent.
I also think that Widmore is responsible for the 316 team, but I don't think he would've arranged it after the call he received from Ben. He would've needed more time, so he probably started making arrangements once John showed up in Tunisia.

Ok, so if Widmore didn't deal with the 316 team after Ben's call, what did he do? You have to figure he would have some reaction to that call and jump into action.
Also, it's unclear that Widmore is even responsible for Ilana's group. According to Ben she is connected, but she could also work for The Economist (assuming he/she is still alive, and it's not Widmore).

If Widmore was responsible for the new team getting to the island that would mean that he knew just how to get back there... so why wouldn't he try and go back himself?
Obviously the same question could be asked regarding the freighter but still...
If Ben was willing to break the rules by trying to get back- why wouldn't Widmore?

Not sure, but I don't think Widmore was just looking for the island's location. The direct quote from him is "I've spent almost 20 years trying to return." So it seems like he was actively trying. His freighter knew where the island was, yet he wasn't on it. I think he gave up on trying after awhile even though he knew the location.

I think, as the episode was titled, dead is dead - Locke is dead. The Locke we see now is a manifestation of the Island... which is to say also Smokie. That's why Locke looked so amused when Ben said he wanted to see the monster to be judged - 'Locke' will be doing the judging.
This is why/how Locke suddenly knew where to find Smokie. It's why, in general, Locke said he just knows things.. he's part of the Island. Rather like Christian is.
Just like Ben said, when he pulled the plug.. what comes out of the jungle he can't control -- Locke came out of the jungle right on cue.

I don't think Locke is the monster but he does talk to him and I think Locke was connecting with Locke in the Jungle when he went to Ben on the porch. Otherwise how would he know all the steps and things to say to Ben.

I agree with you, Locke is dead, but I thought locke knew where smokie was because he found the temple during the flashes.

I always suspected Locke went under the temple and had an encounter with smokie at the end of season 3 and smokie told him to kill that english resucer girl, i forgot her name. just pure speculation on my part though. Although I do think he made a comment that the Island told him to kill her.

Ilana's group works for Ben. Think about it. Ben hired an attorney to take Arron away from Kate to force her to go back to the Island. He convinced Ilana to capture Sayid and force him onto the plane...Its all indirect confrontations. He has everyone else do his bidding. Ben knew he needed Sayid to return to the island and the only way to have him go would be to have him think he was captured for killing the man on the golf corse that Ben had him kill. Ilana's group might not know they work for Ben yet , but I'm sure they will soon find out that they do. I mean why would he want them to tell the Losties " Hey I work for a man named Ben."
