Is Alex "real" or Smokie?

I'm scratching my head wondering if Alex was "saved" by Richard and the gang after being shot by Keamy, or was she really Smokie taking human form to get the point across to Ben? Any thoughts?

I think smokie, a warning that Ben would emotionally connect with....but it is weird that the human form of smokie could grab Ben and throw him against a pillar....I'm not sure I get the connection between smoke form and physical form....how it works....

i am not sure exactly either, when mr. ecko was killed by smokie, it picked him up physically and had it's way with him. the first time mr. ecko encountered smokie all we saw was the smoke and some shadows and the strange sounds.with ben saw smokie it was like we got to see what we didn.t see with mr. ecko, an entire exchange between" alex" or smokie and ben, my point is we saw "alex"move ben physically and we saw smokie move mr.ecko it think it the same action,from a different point of view.

We've seen Smokie drag several people across the ground. One of the frenchmen, for instance. I think it's also lifted people into the air other than Ecko, but I can't recall any specific instances. Suffice to say, this creature may be amorphous, but its properties are very different from those of mere "smoke".

i believe that Smokie took the form of Alex as it has done with other characters such as Yemi . It clearly has supernatural powers in any form it takes . It has mentally dominated losties and it can physically dominate them in smoke form or physical ( human/animal) form.

I'm inclined to believe it was Smokey, unless smokey happens to be a collection of spiritswho passed away on the island, then it could be anyone who passed away. I'm just throwing that thought out in the open.

by the way, anyone find it interesting Ben's voice seemed altered after the event. I wonder if his voice will stay that way or return back to normal?

I can say without a doubt in my mind that it was Smokey taking on the form of Alex. The personality was very similar to Yemi's and the strength it had to move Ben like a rag doll is a far fetch from what Alex was capable of, almost lifting Ben off the ground. Beside, how would Alex know, not having seen Ben know that he was already plotting to kill Locke again?

I agree that Alex was smokie, but is smokie all the dead people we have seen? I have heard before people saying Christian could be smokie, now i think they could be correct. But it would mean smokie can go off island which is really wierd and something i have never seen mentioned! could this be? And the dead that Hurley sees, are they smokie too???? Could Hurley have a special connection with smokie?

As far as Hurley is concerned, he was not the only one who saw Charlie on the grounds of the mental hospital. If you go re-watch that scene you will see another patient that points out to Hurley something like "Hey that guy over there is staring at you".

I think this is exactly right, Christian's body was on that plane but it wasn't in the closed casket when jack opened it up early S1. This makes it pretty clear that the Christian we see is indeed jacks father and not smokie.

Alex, on the other hand, is dead and what we saw was smokie.

its not the same though, christian appeared to jack in L.A., he appeared to michael on the freighter, and he appeared to locke in the cave by the wheel. Locke seems to have human abilities, nothing like that.
