Those Numbers!!!!!

O.K, there is one mystery that has been bothering me since early season 1 and there are still no answers, I actually don't even feel like I have a clue about this:

What do the numbers mean? Why did the other mental patient repeat THE number sequence to hurley? Why did he decide to use THOSE number to play the lottery? Why are THOSE number apparently cursed? Wht were THEY written on the hatch? Any more number questions or hopefully good theories? Thanks :)

Those are the numbers from the Valenzetti Equation that predict the end of the world.

ok, I saw that but I keep getting confused about one thing. That theory was used in the reality game called The Lost Experience. So I dont know if the writers also meant for that to flow over to the show too?

Absolutely. That is the reason for the research on the island. I think it was even referenced on the map wasn't it?

hmmm, so maybe that guy in the mental institution was a part of Dharma before. I don't know why I have been skeptical to believe any internet stuff but this does make sense to me. I wonder when that revelation will hit the show and not just the internet chat rooms :)

You all, I think the writers def meant for the numbers to be basic to the show. As Joe stated these are the numbers that the Valenzetti eq. came up with. In order to change the outcome of the end of the world you must change values in the eq. to get diff. numbers. So they are sort of cursed. Interstingly, the mental hospital is owned by Hanso. I think the patient who repeats them over and over may have been a former employee who went crazy. I also think there are many parallels between the lost experience and the show. Does that help any? That's almost all i've got.

That guy from the institution, Leonard, was in the military working with Sam (the husband of the woman Hurley went to Australia to talk to).. they were stationed somewhere in the Pacific and heard the transmission.. Sam won some money using the numbers and then had some bad luck.. I don't know about Leonard.. maybe they made him go crazy?

What are all the connections with Hanso, there seem to be so many. Is it a commonly accepted theory that Widmore and Hanso are connected too?

Tues. I didn't realize leonard was the the guy with Sam. If the numbers drove sam crazy enough to kill himself, the why not Lenny. I still find it intersesting thst Hanso supposedly owns the mental hospital. Do you also recall the other patient who pointed Charlie out to Hurley? have we seen him before?
