View Full Version : Rousseau says Ben not Alex's father?

Rousseau slapped Ben when Ben said that Alex was his daughter. She despises Ben maybe more than anyone it seems. Alex musta been conceived off island, right? Or wouldnt Rouseau have died? Why does Ben make such a point to be her father--calls her his daughter a lot. Did Ben do something to Rousseau to get Alex?

Its only if a woman conceives on island that she dies, right? So when was Alex conceived and who was her father? Why does Ben claim to be the father and Rousseau say its not Ben?

On a bit of a different note, I think Ben's mom concieved Ben on island and that is why she died--even though she died off island. This fertility thing is not the main mission of the Others--which is why they are upset with Ben, as alluded by Richard. He may be trying to justify his own birth and that it wasnt his fault. To not feel guilty or responsible for his mom's death. Since his dad says it was his fault. Actually, I dont know if he even has any scrupples in him to justify anything.

I'm sure this was discussed somewhere else but I havent found it.

That's because Ben stole Alex when she was a baby and claimed her as his own.

I don't believe Ben was conceived on island but you never know.

I believe a man named Robert is Alex's father....he was Rousseau's lover that was on their science team but she admitted to killing him and the rest of her team because she thought they all had some disease. We haven't heard anything else about Robert but thats just what I assume.

Thanks, too, Dz. Guess its not a good idea to cough around Rousseau! I knew she was a bit, uhh, different, but that sounds a bit extreme. Bet there's more to that story!

Gilligan, you have my new favorite Forum name! If you don't want to get the DVD's, ABC.com has every episode 24/7.

Well, Robo, you've got one of my favorite, as Hurley might say, 'One of those cool little picture dealy whatchimicallits by your name'.

OH NO, dont tell me i can watch em all online. I'll never get anything done in the real world now...or is it the real world? So far I have only figured out how to watch the current season--and I came on halfway thru last year. I had to read all the plots but couldnt watch em. Maybe its my, ahem, older computer.

I was going to recommend abc.com as well because there are very few commercials and it is free.

Yeah you're right. Come to think of it, we have not heard anything about the disease lately. Nor anything relating to the "Quarantine" signs either....hmmmmm...

And Rousseau's level of hatred towards Ben must be absolutely sky high.

but she is pretty calm about it - maybe 16 years of assuming the worst has done that to her.

Ben was born offisland. In The Man Behind the Curtain we get his flashback. Ben's father and mother were in the woods and she went into labor, eventually dying. Years later when Ben was about 10 or so, his dad got a job on the island working as a janitor for the Dharma Intiative. Ben was uphappy and ran away into the woods and met Richard Alpert. Years later, as an adult, he knew when the original Others came and killed all the Dharma people with the posionous gas.

maybe i said it wrong. I think ben was conceived on island. so his mom died even though she was off island at childbirth. I only saw recaps of first few years and am just now watching the Pilot, so i may get more enlightened and change this theory.

No Ben was conceived off the island and didn't come until he was about 10 or so.

wasnt there a couple that picked them up after the birth in the woods? it seemed like somebody was suspiciously/coincidentally involved in ben's birth. but you've seen more than i have. i think people with a connection to the island are ones born there...but then again, i'm not so sure ben has a connection with the island. people on this site say yes he does but locke, walt and hurley seem more in tune than he.

whether or not ben was conceived/born on island maybe ben/ben's mom was a part of dharma's experiment somehow and thats why ben wanted to kill them all--and why he is now willing to keep experimenting on other moms, even if they die, until he finds out how to do it so they live?

Well I could agree with that considering all we know of Locke is that he grew up in an adoption agency and we know a little bit about his mother but not much other than that. However that would mean Walt would have had to have been born there as well as he seems to have an obvious connection as well but we know he wasn't.

There you go, knowing more than me again. i'm gunna hafta pick up the pace on my Season One viewing. soon i'll be as smart as you--or maybe i'll just be more confused. it is interesting, knowing what i now know, to watch the first year. There's clues everywhere. Do you remember Locke on the beach with Walt, showing him backgamman and explaining something like: "this is an old game, 5000 years old, before Christ, light against dark". Now that was good.

Yah Locke kinda took Walt under his wing so to speak, even taught him how to kinfe throw lol but it was interesting in teaching him he said "visualize the object in your head first, visualize it and use your mind. Then throw." Walt did and hit the target dead on the head.....then he turns to Locke and says "I saw it! I actually saw it with my mind! That was so cool!" Haha that episode was pretty interesting.
