I see on the blast door map these things as well as "PRIMARY NEXUS OF CERBERUS ACTIVITY".

It is thought that CV = Cerberus Vents.

Last episode, "Dead Is Dead", Ben Linus says a wall was built by his people around the temple. It looked the same when richard took him in as a kid. How does he know this?

Any theories on the vents?

Anyone know where the temple might be on the blast door map?

Btw, new here so hi everyone!

Well, I imagine being an Other would come with the information about the temple and the wall and etc.

I think Dharma may have been studying smokie after their first encounter with it. They may have found out about the so called Cerberus Vents, tunnels underneath the island that may all lead to under the temple. If smokie can be stopped by their fence, maybe they made it specifically for that reason, and it was just a plus that it could potentialy keep the Others out.

There was talk about how smokie is connected to the ground and that there were cables pulling him based on the sound it makes when it is dragging someone along the ground but we never hear that sound when it is moving pver the ground any other time. I am not so convinced that it is lead by some underground cable but is free moving to a certain extent. It wasnt able to cross the sonic fence meaning going over it like Kate and the other people in her group did when Locke through Mikhael into it. Smokie never tried to go over it and the episode where it made it into the camp was because the fence was deactivated by Alex when she brought Keamy and his men with her to Dharmaville. So I am leaning more toward being confined to the ground itself for some odd reason as opposed to being mechanically linked to it.

Maybe it just isn't s smart as we think! Maybe it hasn't figured out that it CAN go over it. It obvoiusly can go up, because the first time we saw it, it yanked the pilot out of the plane.

I suppose it can "go up", but it seems to still be attached to the ground. It can stretch and such to lift people off the ground and etc., but it seems to stick close to the ground. I don't think it is mechanical, though. I think the sounds we hear it make might be from memories or something it has taken from those it has "scanned"; we know it can show them to the likes of Ben or Eko, so why not sounds, too?

true. Except remember in La Fleur - Richard told Horace that "Your fence can't keep us out."

And how could they safely study this entity or smoke?

I mentioned in another post that in a carving a god had knelt down before IT.

After watching last weeks episode it seems clear that the sound smokie makes is some kind of lightning. Maybe the Swan was a station originally intended for the study of EM energy that manifested itself as the smoke monster. We see the monster as smoke but its really just a cloud of electromagnetic energy that can manifest itself into a certain shape to serve its purpose

Well, the Others aren't necessarily the same as the smoke monster, although I think it's possible that Richard is and he keeps that fact secret from everyone else. Either way, there may be a tunnel that connects two of the CV's that allows them to safely pass the fence and get into the barracks.

As for studying the monster, they do have that security station with all the cameras. Maybe they have more and are able to watch it.
