Time IS the Essence

We are watching two timelines of the island simultaneously. The losties are back in 1977 and the rest of Ajira is in 2007. The war is coming. The war is between the Dharma Initiative and the Others. When will this war take place?

The comic con video from 2008 is very revealing now. It was recorded in 1977 or 1978 by Dr. Chang and presumably Dan Faraday. We know it was before the incident as Dr. Chang still has his arm. That would place it before 1980 when the Swan Orientation video clearly shows him without his arm and he speaks of the incident. So, in the comic con video Dr. Chang says that it is imperative that the Dharma Initiative be reconstituted. He is pleading that they resume his experiments. He is talking about his time travel experiments. He says that they are his only hope for survival, that they will all die in the purge. He is implying that they can change the past. This video was shown at the Dharma Initiative booth at comic con.

Ilana and her goonies are with the Dharma Initiative. They have returned to the island for the war. Are they going to help other Dhama folks get to the island to fight? How are they going to do this? Perhaps this ties in with what is in the box. Perhaps the way Ilana plans to get more DI folks to fight the war is by going back in time. Could her box contain something to achieve this goal?

In the video, Dr. Chang says that "Time is not of the essence, time IS the essence." So, I poked around trying to figure out the semantics of this phrase. Time is of the essence is basically a legal phrase that relates to contracts. It is a stipulation that says time is important and there is a set amount of time to do something. Dr. Chang said that wasn't it. He said that time IS the essence. What does that mean? Well, if you break it down you could say that time is something that exists, is an entity. In other words time is a thing that exists and has its own attributes. Time is a being. So, it appears that Pierre Chang has discovered that time is alive in some way. Time is a life force. Could this also be a hint as to what the smoke monster is? The metalic noises could be the gears of time? The scans are going back in time in someones mind?

That's an interesting theory. Many have thought that smokie flashes pictures of past, and perhaps the sonic fence may actually bear some kind of influence on smokie... Smokie may be an ENTITY to correct time. I have always thought this. The pilot was supposed to die, but the healing properties of the island spared him, however time needed to be corrected. Smokie was the time corrector.

Perhaps the purge happened b/c Dharma had found a way to block or correct the time CORRECTOR... On the blast door map, we see all these things about the primary nexus of cerberus activity. They may have called it cerberus, but it is so easy to assume that this Cerberus IS in fact smokie. Assuming this, we can assume that Kazinsky and other invisible ink painters, named it b/c they have studied it.

Also, i LAUGHED my arrse off @ that kid... "We're going to the Dharma Booth!!!!"

Have you also thought it may only be linked to the Alt Reality Game that was discontinued and replaced with the lame "DHARMA ACCESS"? I really wanted another lost experience myself, however @ lostpedia.com you will find that the ARG VIDS ARE NOT ALWAYS CANON (linked to the show)

Time is the essence....does sound as an incomplete sentence.
But as I am not that good in English grammar or spelling....not sure.

My first reaction was sure time is the essence ....but of what?

Just like in another sentence someone ever said:
Change is the essence of life

That is why it feels as if the sentence is incomplete.
Haven't seen this in the show, must have missed it....when Chang said so.

The first video is not canon to the show. It is from an ARG and it is one of the characters, Rachel Blake, at the convention. The ones that follow are the producers and actors from Lost answering fan questions and so forth. Then the last video is Dr. Chang and I believe is canon to the show, if I am not mistaken. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will mention it right away! lol!

Good questions with easy answers. Okay, you know how our losties are stuck right now in 1977? And Daniel Faraday just showed up again at the end of last weeks episode? Well, the off camera voice that you hear at the end of that video sounds like and 99% sure, is Dan Faraday. He helped Chang film the video. Now, the theory is this, possibly Miles told Chang he is his son from the future and he and Dan told him all about how they got there and what will happen to the Dharma Initiative in about 1980, which is the purge. Miles had seen his father playing with him as an infant last week and seemed to suddenly realize that his father did love him. So, he may decide to try and help. It's a great theory and is posted here somewhere. Anyway, they hold open the pinhole into the future and send the video in the hopes that someone, Dharma no doubt, will try and do something to stop the purge. Okay, so now on the show, we suddenly have Ilana and Bram running around asking people their riddle about the shadow of the statue. It seems to be code for finding people that will assist them in their mission. I theorize, along with other folks here, that they are with the Dharma of the future, or 2007. They had heard the plea from Chang and now have gone back to the island to try and take it back and save the 1977 DI from the purge. I think that Ilana has something real special in that big box that was on the beach ad not weapons. I am thinking it will be something to help them get to 1977. I can't swear to that as truth but we will find out soon. I think that the big war that is coming will be the Dharma Initiative against the Others for possession of the island and not Ben against Widmore. In this instance, they are really on the same team I think. So, the incident that we will see, where Chang looses his arm, will happen at the end of this season. And the great theory is that somehow Miles has a lot to do with it. Perhaps he saves Chang, costing him his arm but in the process looses his life. Poor Miles.

Believe me, sometimes we all get confused! It's okay! We'll find out soon enough if all of our theories are right but what I said about the video is good info.

Wasnt the final purge in 1992??, I thought I heard somewhere there was a difference between Chang's "Violent Purge". And the Gass Attack in 1992

The gas attack in 1992 was the purge. The incident occured in or around 1980 and there were other incidents as noted on the blast door map that occured throught the 80's.

it seems so pointless to even create a video that ties in so closely now, that doesn't have any validity. I mean even if it isn't cannon it seems like it should be in the show somewhere, I think i would lose a little respect if the they filmed that as a secret video, and it now doesn't happen.;)
