So, I noticed that no one has brought this up yet. Ethan is born of the DI people, yet we know he's with the Others later. He was with Ben when he kidnapped Alex. I'm wondering if Ben saved Ethan during the purge also. He seems to have a soft spot for younglings.

& what about the crazy Russian guy? I can't remember his name. He always wears a DI suit in 2004. Is he an other or a DI that converted?

Good post! So do we believe that Amy and Paul were Hostiles who are "spies" for them? Is that why Richard came back and took Paul's body so he could take it to the Temple? Ben went back and lived with the DI but was actually a Hostile so I have to wonder about Amy and Ethan. Is that why Amy could have a child because she was an original of the Island?

I think they may be using Ethan as a way to show us what point in time we are. For ex) when the time flashes first began, Locke was shot by Ethan when climbing up to the plane. We could then figure when this was; before Ethan was shot and after the drug runners crashed. Then, Amy gives birth to Ethan, so we know that this was years before the losties arrived. Finally, Ben is seen with a younger Ethan to show us that this was sometime when Ben was in his younger years. Just a thought. I believe they used Ethan this way earlier in the show. When Juliet was recruited, Ethan was with Richard, etc.

I am curious whether Ben and Ethan were full-fledged others when stealing Alex. I think this should have happened before the purge, but Ben appeared to be living with the DI during the purge.

The purge happened in 1992. Alex was born on the island in 1988. The purge had not happened yet, so why is Ethan with the Hostiles?

I think he's being primed to become an Other, just not a leader, when he grows up. They had to take him to safety before the Purge, of course, so he'd survive. We don't know a lot about Ethan other than what he had to do with Claire and that he told Jack that he lost his wife in childbirth.
