I can't think of a better place to put this :-) First time poster btw so be gentle.
Why, when in the real world, were the Oceanic 6 generally found to be wearing black, with slicked down looks, straight hair, dark makeup (girls), that sort of thing?
Is it some sort of reflection of the dark emptiness of this world/reality against the vivid bright colours and natural life-filled lushness of the Island?
It seems too obvious a visual image to be incidental, and I wonder what others think.

Hi frog girl. Good observation. Don't think I've seen this brought up, and haven't really thought about it myself until now. My first thought is that it might have something to do with the mirror-world hypothesis - where there is a mirror world made of dark matter. There are probably many more possibilities, but I'm sure you're right - it's not incidental. Welcome aboard by the way, I'm Chester. :)

Because most of the time they were dressed up more and once off the island they were able to get back to using all the amenities (makeup, hair straighteners, etc.) that they lacked for most of the time on the island.
I don't really see anything beyond the coincidence that they are wearing darker colors. Most of the time we saw Jack, Kate, and Sun wearing more formal outfits and nice suits that are more common in dark colors. I'd say it could be symbolic of their somewhat empty lives off the island, but nothing more.

Because they were dead inside, or something to that effect. Either that or in denial. Sayid still appeared to be wearing them the last time we saw him.
This reminds me of the first episode wherein Jack, Kate, and Charlie were going to get the transciever(sp?). Jack and Kate wore white while Charlie wore black. Guess it kind of foreshadowed his death.
