Being new to this thread I imagine that this topic has been discussed numerous times but never the less I am curious. Where did the Others come from? It seems unlikely that they are descended from a native culture. It seems unlikely that they are deposed Dharma foke. It seems like other civilizations have alos inhabited the island but nothing is left but the glyphs and a foot from some giant Egyptian looking statue. It seems like the DI have knowledge of the Egyptian or whatever influence on the island. Why else would they have used Glyphs on the timer for the Swan station? Still another question. How did the DI even find out about the island? How did they initially find it? We only know how a few Others got to the island beyond that the rest of them are a mystery, the biggest mystery being Richard Alpert. Widmore was a part of a U.S. Army team that found the island, for what reason we dont know. Ben was a child when brought to the island with his dad. Juliet was recruited by the Others to help study the effects of childbirth on the women. Ethan was born of Amy and Horace and somehow became an Other like Ben.

thats the thing though. It makes me crazy too! What makes me even more crazy is that I have a sneaking suspicion that in about a year when all is said and done and we can finally say its all over I wont be surprised if Abrams and Co. leave a number of secrets hidden. I am so afraid that there will be a lot of questions that I have that never get answered. I dont necessarily need an answer but at least if I got one it would then save me from endlessly theorizing on the what, why and when of ridiculous minutia

The thing that scares me is when Lost is over for good. No-more.
We will know most of the secrets ect.
It will never be the same again.

Anyway I see your point. Everyone, besides Alpert, has came to the Island (as far as we know) so maybe Richard is the descendant of the ancient civilisation (explains his mascara and the such).

I don't think Widmore was part of a US Army team. When they went back to 1954, Widmore and the others were wearing what looked like Army uniforms, but I'm pretty sure they got them from the soldiers they killed that brought Jughead.

Yeah, I think it was just so they could wear something different, perhaps incase the Army found them.. they could be mistaken from those disguises
