only 8 survivors?

When Jack was in court he said only 8 people survied the crash. Is that to protect the people still on the island or is that all there really was alive? :confused: :eek:

This is obviously a lie, as we've all come to know about 30+ of the crash survivors. The indication right now is that only 6 of these survivors actually make it off the island, thus the Oceanic 6. We have no reason to disbelief this fact, but clearly Jack saying that there were only 8 crash survivors is a deliberate lie.

I don't think it was because he was blackmailed/paid-off OR because he loves Kate. It's a much better reason. Either the Oceanic 6 are keeping what happened on the island a secret because they believe it's in everyone's best interest to not know about it, or because they're being forced to.

Yes remember Ben has a lot of money, although I don't think that is the Oceanic 6's motivation.....with a lot of money comes a lot of power so Ben must hold some very high power....OR Miles knows about some sort of time travel thing that Ben might be able to do which may be how he came come up with money? I dunno just rambling...

The Oceanic six are hiding the Island. He said they nearly starved to death on a deserted island, no one unless they were a complete idiot would starve on that Island. Just a thought.

Well clearly the general public, (and by this I mean the rest of the world who's not "in" on what's happening on the island, the governments of the world included), do not know about the island. If they did, than Jack wouldn't have referred to it as a deserted island. It would have gotten out to the public somehow that some fishy stuff was going on there. This, to me, indicates that Jack and the Oceanic 6 return to society by some other means than being rescued directly on the island. I think it's more likely that they return to society and than give their account what happened, not that society came to them on the island to rescue them.

I'm saying the reason Jack said only 8 survived the crash (origanally) is so they did not have to explain about the ones we saw die. Like when the cop asked Hurley about Anna Lucia he said he never met her she must have died in the crash!?!?

I don't think that they're lying about the number of survivors because they're being blackmailed and I don't think that Jack saying that in court had any effect on Kate's trial... She said afterwards that he's said that so many times that he's starting to believe it...

They are clearly being pressured into following this fasade, but I think it is because they are being threatened with bodily harm to either the other O6 members or to the losties back on the island... Ben said something to Sayid last week about continuing to protect his friends? Which friends would that be? The O6? The Losties left behind?

I wrote in another thread that I believed that they all have to keep quite until Sayid gets everyone on the list...

I think that is a good hint for the next episodes - normally he would say only 6 survived. Saying that 8 survived initially, but only 6 made it off the island means that they have come back with 2 dead bodies! So 2 are about to day - could be michael and walt, could be someone else...

If you remember back to the flash forward when sayid was on the golf course, he said that he was the recipiant of a large settlement.

It seems that Ben would have money to spare because that asian dude from the "Freighter" told Ben that he wanted 3.2 milllion dollars from him.

Okay, I think the O6 had to make some type of deal to protect the lives of those other survivors/friends essentially held hostage on the island by Ben. Therefore, tremendous guilt is eating at them (Jack, Hurley, Sayid, Kate).

But there is something that really bugs me. The media these days would be crawling all over their island to show their little shelters and how they lived, etc. If that happened on the real island, well, let's just say they would find a lot of interesting things, So I bet that the story about crashing in the water correlates with the plane in the trench, which is far away from the real island. There is probably some deserted island near the trench plane and they staged a little eight survivor shelter village and probably buried two bodies (who apparently die prior to rescue) to make everything fall into place. So if Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, Sun and Jin (I bet Ben makes use of Jin's talents like Sun's dad did), who are the two dead crash survivors?

They would probably stay away from the tailie dead bodies. Would they dig up dead bodies and move them? Or was there a plan that there would be the O8 and the plan changed when two started trouble, could not be trusted or simply died accidentally? The simplist thing would be to dig up Paolo and Nikki. That way someone could cash in on the diamonds.

Let me get just as far out on this limb as is possible..uh, just a bit more now, there! I'm hanging by a twig....Could they have been taken to another island somewhere as part of the rescue deal?
