I just can't believe Miles comes down to extortion. Something else is up.

Miles is only after money. It showed him looking for drugs from the dead guy in his flashback. Maybe he communicated with someone dead on or off the island that gave specific details about Ben.

that could be! never thought of that. maybe some of the freighties are ben's guys on the outside and, with the communication disturbances, they dont know if hes alive or not. Maybe they wanted to be taken to ben to actually see him, reverse psychology. Same with Ben. Maybe he wanted them to find him up on the radio tower so he told jack they were bad so jack would do the opposite. sorta like he told locke to not blow up sub [which, according to Dz, Locke didnt). kinda doubt it, but ya never know!

but i agree 3.2 million is a rather specific amount og money and seems rather odd. there also seemed something odd about the way miles said, i will tell them you are already dead.
