View Full Version : You tired of time travel too?

Ever since the writers began taking us on this "island-shifting" "time-travel" stuff, my interest in the show has gone waaay down. Granted, I'm hooked like the rest of you, but I miss the good ole' days of Season's ONE and TWO...when things at least, remotely, made sense and you could follow the storyline.

I'm thinking dropping acid should be prohibited in that big room where the writers brainstorm the next season's theme.

I think they are killing a good thing. Let's get back to basics.

Apparently yolu don't realize that things have been amiss ever since the beginning. No, I love the time travel and all of the science that has been introduced. You don't have to really know what the science is but if you do you have a whole other perspective on the show. I have known that the island moves ever since season one when the ocean suddenly got very rough and the tide was rising faster than anyone had ever seen before and they had to move the camp down the beach. I new something would come with time travel because everyone wore their watches after being in a plane crash and stranded on an island. I knew when one of the Others was reading Stephen Hawking's book "A Breif History of Time" outside of a station and I have always known that Desmond had time traveled as a result of the Swan implosion. So, no, I am not sick of the time travel aspect of the show. It has always been there and I love it. I think the show would be quite boring and trivial without it! Just my little opinion.

Welcome Grayrock . And may I reply to your post with ......NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
:D I know it is extremely confusing now, but hey! We've all made it this far, so let's stick it out so we can proudly say at the end that we survived more than Helm's Deep! HEEHEEHEE
We should all get t-shirts or something! "I survived 6 seasons of Lost and now I am omnicient!" :D

things have to escalate it cant stay like survivor forever and it is a sci-fi,and personally i love the time travel it explains alot of things or just make things cooler for u to say "wow!",and if u have notice the dynamic slightly changes each season 1st season it was the island survivor thing(with a few twists but again its a sci-fi)2nd season it was the hatch thing, 3rd season it was the others,4th season it was the frieghter, and now its time travel,6th season:????(hopefully the best of all)

Hey Bax, the closest thing to someone agreeing with them was RIP Charlie and he just said time travel makes him tired....not that he didn't like it!!! So, it appears the concensus is, time travel good, stagnant, bad!!! lol.

i see. in that case I will play devil's advocate and kind of agree with this person as well. Overall Lost has a habit of finding new ways of testing my patience. I can see why it feels distracting after a while. I still personally believe time travel was just a new way to tell the story, in lieu of having more flashbacks or flash-forwards, but if time travel is no longer helping them tell their story, or even getting in the way of telling the story, they should move on to something else.

I guess the more common way of asking this question is do you want more mythology or more character development? I may be over-generalizing his comments, but I am guessing this person is getting weary of the mythology stuff?

No, no. I get your point and it is valid. That is why they have now introduced the new phase that time can be changed. I was looking at screen caps today and found the one from Dan's journal that we just saw. Well, guess what? There is an equation on the page on the right that bears out what he was saying, time can be changed. I made a thread about it. So, hang on to your chairs folks, cause here we go again....only different!!!!

yeah... I completely disagree with you but I'll spare the debate for another thread since that is not what this one is about.

I'm just saying I understand this person's point of view and even though I like the thought exercises that occur from the various paradoxes that occur from traveling through time and learning about ancient Egyptian gods, I too hope they slow things down a little and start explaining to me why I should even care about any of these people in the first place.

ok so what I mean is that, I felt I could relate to John Locke in season 1 when Locke was upset and pounding on the hatch door in despair right before the light came on for example. I was surprised that Boone died and I even felt it was indirectly Locke's fault and I felt upset for him. And damnit I wanted to know what was inside that hatch too!

And when Locke was left all alone in the hatch when the computer was busted and unable to press the button he fell to his knees and asked why this was happening since he didn't know what to do. I also could understand how he felt.

And when Jack got tired of Locke's antics and shouted back at Locke 'so what are we "supposed" to do?" I could understand how he felt. Even now I am growing annoyed with Locke's undead shenanigans.

It may be that these types of situations are decreasing now in latter seasons? The last time I felt I could relate to a character in this way was when Jack seemed to be giving up and was wondering if everything was really his fault. Kate's story may have given some of that as well.

So what I think this person was getting at, is that in later seasons the story line has become increasingly complex and far-fetched. And what I am getting at is that perhaps this complicated and increasingly unbelievable story line is perhaps coming at the expense of learning more about the characters. Would you really care at all if Miles died for example? I don't.

Well actually I want him to die but that's a different story...

Baxie, I completely understand where you're coming from with this (or is it where you're going or where you've been?:D)

... but anyway, when it gets just a tad too much with all the mythology/time line thing, just remember or think of yourself in their position...

These are our beloved characters whom we feel we know like the back of our own hand by now, and in a moment they will be forced to take sides in the most difficult situation of their lives... what would YOU do if you were Jack - or Ben - or Sawyer - or Kate - or Jules...

Now that's something we can put ourselves directly into.
And that, friend, is the great story you've got going there. ;)

I kind of saw this coming when it was first hinted that time might be an issue with the show. It worried me because if you start trying to make time travel make sense you're probably not going to be able to do it. The more you think about it the more problems you create and every solution to a problem creates a new problem. Time travel is just not logical. The only solution as a story teller is to ignore the questions and bull ahead with your flawed premise. In the end you wind up with an unsatisfying conclusion. This is every Lost fans worst fear.

For the time being though I'm just going to roll with it and hope TPTB can wow us with a mind blowing climax to what has so far been a great ride.

I'm tired of dramas. Real tired. That is why I only watch LOST and not any of the thousands of dramas that are available on ten different channels at any one time of the day. The only thing that seems to be distinguishing LOST from dramas is the time-travel aspect. I say we need more of it.
