If Daniel was returning from Ann Arbour 1977 and this is his present, How was he able to continue his research if he was off island and the island is what makes cured his illness. Is this just a flaw in the storyline because it just didn't make sense to me.

I think going to the island cures you, but leaving the island does not leave you impaired again. Locke could walk when he left.

Really he couldn't walk, his entire time off the island was spent in a wheel chair or a coffin.

well he was able to walk just not well he did drive away when abbadon was killed

I'm not clear as to why Dan had to leave the island. His knowledge was based on 2004. What could they have in Ann Arbor in 1977 that would have helped him? Maybe he left the island to see what year it was in Ann Arbor?

Yeah sorry I was completely joking because of what the person said that quoted my busted leg statment and they said coicidence. Sorry if the tone was off that's why I put the green smile face. I'm not that much of an Ahole to think they are the same thing.

Examples of people sick coming and leaving the island:

Locke cured of paralysis left the island and walked.
Juliet's sister was brought to the island to cure her cancer and left.
Most likely Claire's mom was brought to the island to cure her. (She was brain dead after the crash if I remember)

I think if someone is cured by the island they are cured even off the island. It may also be "up to" the island whether they leave with the ailment of not ...

The coincidence is not the injury but the wheel chair, The irony that all of the 06 plus Locke had to deal with all of same demons once off the island that they had before ever crashing on the island.

But can we really be sure that it DOES heal you for good because Rose had said that she did not want to leave this place because of the fact that BEING there was special. If you were to leave the island, then you will not have contact with whatever is healing them. It is the island that is special.
