Agree.. I thought he was already born cause I didn't think Ellie would have a kid and name it Dan after just killing a person who claimed to be her son, and was named Dan. It makes a bit more sense now.

i realized she was pregnant too. but... if he was born in 78 that makes him under 30 years old when he dies and that's hard for me to believe, as well as the fact that he would have been a 19 year old professor and doctor, like you said.

i couldn't help but notice that during this episode, especially after eloise gets out of the water into the tunnels, that she looks a LOT like penny. she's already had one kid with widmore, why would 2 be hard to believe? is it possible that eloise is pregnant with penny?

if, on the other hand, it is danny chillin in that womb, then maybe his crazy good brain has something to do with the radiation given off by the bomb? i know women shouldn't even smoke when they're pregnant, so i doubt loitering around a leaking hydrogen bomb in a cramped tunnel with the intent to blow it to hell is a good idea when you're expecting...

Yeah, I agree that the radiation could have something to do with Daniel being how he is.

But, I'm pretty sure Penny isn't her daughter because at some point, which I totally can't remember now, someone said something about Charles breaking the rules and getting an outsider pregnant.

i remember that too, but at that point eloise was off the island and probably considered an outsider (she was probably exiled if she left after being in charge, and i would consider someone exiled from my society to be an outsider. then again, i don't really have a society so i'm not an expert on this subject :D).

As far as young geniuses go, there are many. Haven't you ever heard of Doogie Howser. And Sheldon (the physicist on Big Bang Theory) supposedly graduated with a PHD at 15 or something I think.

Maybe too this is why Dan has a diff last name than Ellie or Widdy. She wanted to be kinda disconnected from him becuz she knows that she will kill him.

But didn't Ben say to Charles as Charles was being "banished" from the island "YOU were one who had a child with someone off the island" or something to that effect? That's before we knew about Charles and Eloise (and Dan being their son) but we knew Penny was his daughter, so I assumed Penny's mother was not Eloise...rather someone in the "civilian" world - never known to/been on the island...??

I don't know if this has been answered somewhere else as I've posed the question on different threads - but if this bomb is not detonated - or wasn't for a long time anyway - and was "leaking" for a long time - could THAT be the reason for the aborted/incomplete pregnancies all women were experiencing on the island causing for the recruitment of Juliet? (and notice Juliet did not want to become pregnant with Sawyer...recall when Amy asked "when are you and Jim going to have one of these?")...but then how did Amy complete her pregnancy?? There goes the 1977 theory out the window of the leaky bomb causing aborted pregnancies - however; over 30 years in the ground - it still could affect the 2004 crowd...hence the call for Juliet by Ben ??

It seems that no one has spoken Dan's name to her after she has shot him. If she were pregnant or has yet to conceive him, then I wouldnt think that she would purposely name him after the man she shot who claimed to be from the future. With that reasoning, I would imagine possible Dan is an infant or toddler in 1977, but who knows.

Also, the widmore, hawking, faraday name thing. I'm sure it was done to keep the plot suspensful, but easily explained with Hawking remarrying between 77 and 07. Her last name hasnt been said in the past, it could be faraday

gwynnie--great point!! about the radiation- until last night we did not know the bomb was under the barracks. That makes perfect sense.

Hawkings was born in 1937..she was 17 in 1954..and 40 in 1977
she was 40 when she had faraday. She didnt look 40 yrs old to me
