OK. So what I noticed in tonights episode is that Ben is still plotting against John. He has made comments to Alpert to somehow manipulate someone else to kill Locke. Using the same manipulating he used on Locke in the hatch when he was locked up to cause friction, he is doing now with Alpert against John. For all we know maybe John is meant to kill Jacob and take that spot. But I still think Ben is plotting to kill Locke and although he may not do it himself, he is manipulating others like Alpert to make it so Locke gets killed because he will be seen as a threat to the Island and the Hostiles.
But man what an episode. I thought it would have given us a little more insight to Alpert but all we got was that he is old and been around a very very long time. We already knew that. I wish the TPTB would elaborate on that and explain more about him.
Who else else gasped when they heard the gunshot and thought Kate was next to be exed?

well i think that Richard may be smokie. Some things would hint to that

-Smokie is there to protect Locke and probably all of the island's leaders
-Richard is always there to be the leaders "advisor", is this how smokie keeps an eye on things?
-When Ben told richard he tried to kill Locke, Richard gave him a strange look, or was that just me?

And i was shocked after the gun shot, but i had a feeling it was Sayid, how did he find them?

LostTime, I think Ben was more just trying to mind his p's & q's.....choosing his words very carefully so as not to incriminate himself with Smokie who told him to watch it. Richard and Ben were in agreement, but if Ben quoted Richard, then he more or less protects himself from Smokie's wrath. That's what I was thinking, anyway.... (not saying Ben doesn't still resent John, though, of course! HA!)

If Ben tries to kill Locke in any form wouldn't smokie come back and kill him seeing as tho he (well she) told Ben to simply follow his orders. I think that would be a stupid move on Ben's part but hey there is only one more season so maybe Ben is no longer needed and will try to kill Locke and again and be taken out. Maybe?...

Who else else gasped when they heard the gunshot and thought Kate was next to be exed?

Yea I thought it was Kate but was thinking they wouldn't kill 2 ppl back-to-back the same way would they.

Yes but Ben questioned Locke when he said for Ben to go with them and Ben asked if he didnt trust him with his former people. He doesn't seem to be following everything Locke is saying and is questioning him a lot. For all we know, Ben might be thinking that Locke is a threat and will try to stop him not even considering the outcome of these actions.

Yea true. He already said that this why he tried to kill Locke before when Richard said that Locke would be trouble. Maybe Ben doesn't believe that Smokie will actually do anything or just trying to see exactly how much he can get away with

Or smokie is testing Ben's judgement on the issue. Like when Jesus was tempted by satan. And Jesus made the right call too. Could I love Ben anymore... Wow... Hallelullah

hahaha. now worries. We need to show these people the light. And back to my literature, would Locke be the hero in "The Foutainhead" or "Atlas Shrugged"? Nope. I certianly hope the Lost writers share my love of Ayn Rand, lol

It doesn't matter what Ben does, Locke isn't afraid anymore of what Ben could or would do. Locke will kill Jacob too. Guys and gals, i felt the gear shift to that gear its needs to be in for the finale in tonight's episode.
