When was the last time someone was interrogated on Lost and they didn't lie?
Locke wanted to know how Ben knew about the the people on the Freighter.

Ben couldn't tell locke he can see the future and thats how he knows who they are.

Why does he need to interrogated to lie?

If Ben can see the future and that is how he knows who the freighter crew is why would he tell everyone that?

That would surely cause him to have to answer more questions.

So instead he tells them he has a spy on the boat.

i wouldn't rule out that ben is ben's man on the boat. if you subscribe to ben being able to travel in time, this would be a layup. it would explain why ben kind of laughed at locke when lock asked ben to name his spy on the boat.
