I have not seen it discussed yet but I am guessing that the tunnels go all over the island with different exits--much easier to travel un-noticed

Good thread topic. I guess we know that the tunnel system extends to under the DI camp (where Jughead was 'buried'), and into the 'island'...to where? Does it go to the Orchid cave system? The Temple? The Hydra? Nowhere?

Remember when Kate and Sawyer brought young Ben to Richard and Sawer says " where did you come from" underground maybe??

yeah, the underwater cave part was awesome!

I'm sure it leads to the temple, among other places. Not sure how the Jughead got there...

Dude...What?

I am not sure if I believe myself or not, but I said in another thread somewhere that in order to move the bomb they would need to inlist some supernatural assistance. Possibly Smokey? Maybe in the 1950's-1970's when the bomb was moved from the hanging rack to the underground tunnels, smokey was the mule of the island and helpped out. Possibly after the incident, Smokey got pissed and started killing (bad) people and ripping up trees? Im sure there are holes all over this theory, so give it to me.

I 100% agree; Smokey moved that big bastard down there. It's the only way I can see the Hostiles moving in with out dropping it and setting it off, or handling and getting chemical burns.

I've thought about tunnels since the end of season 1, when Locke was almost pulled down into that pit by smokie. Much later on in 'Lockdown' we see more evidense of the possibility of tunnels. And in season 3's 'Glass Ballerina' it seems quite odd how the Others can get from Hydra island to the dock's where Desmond's boat is undetected.

Of course at the time I thought the tunnels could be something that Dharma had constructed, especialy with that random door in the Hydra station that Jack opened that almost drowned him and Juliet. Now it seems that they were part of the temple. But then how would Radzinsky know about them in order to paint them on the blast door map? Did that give smokie the opportunity to take control of him and make him kill himself?

Nah, they got to Desmond's boat by the submarine. Ben ordered Colleen Pickett to take Galaga, aka the sub and get me that boat. So they didn't use the tunnels to get to the boat undetected. Colleen is then confronted by Sun, Sun shoots and kills her.

The "temple" is Richard (the Pharaoh's) tomb.

http://history1900s.about.com/library/misc/bltuttomb.htm

That is a link to a simple layout of a simple tomb for a minor Pharaoh. For major Pharaoh's they were immense.

The tunnels are perfectly consistent with passages inside a tomb. Egyptians were very very enchanted with life after death, the whole show is a re-enactment of Egyptian beliefs. If you search my posts for the last few days, I've solved the whole puzzle, I think...

So it is not anymore about the teachings you were talking about in the theory section?

So it is not anymore about the teachings you were talking about in the theory section? It is the same teachings, rooted in the same fundamental "belief" that Reality is God, Reality is Spirit, we are Spirit.

The Egyptians called it Ma'at, the principle that the universe, the logos, what we now call spirit, is Reality, is God.

They had some mythological names & stories for various facets of Reality/Spirit/God, that cause modernists to figure they were as blind as all the other ancient peoples.

Like, the boar that was hell bent on frustrating one of the Losties (was it Jack?) the Egyptians believed that a person could inhabit/become any form, a statue or an animal, and take action in any way.

So, if you're plotting a scheme, and squirrel takes your sandwich, it is GOD telling you to NOT do what you're about to do, through the Spirit.

Actually it was Sawyer. It seems to me he was convinced that Frank Ducket, the man he had mistaken for the guy who killed his parents and who he killed himself, had come back as a boar.

In the same episode, Locke told Sawyer and Kate how his foster mother thought that their daughter came back as a dog to tell her that it wasn't her fault that she died.

How do I have to pronounce Ma' at?

I would think that you say it with a soft a like in ball, but you kinda stutter when you say the ah part. Sometimes it's written without the apostrophe.

The word Maat means mother in Russian.

Maat was a goddess, sort of, but not really, it was a mystical principle, not an entity. All the "gods" served Maat. So did the Pharaohs.

Mother nature.
