Just a thought. If John hadn't told Richard to tell himself that he had to bring back everyone to the island and to do so he must die, would Richard have done it anyways? What would have happened if John Locke wasn't there in 2007 to tell Richard to save time travelling John Locke from a bullet wound in his leg?

My best bet is THAT scene is a time loop that John knew he MUST perform in order to get to where he is now ( Knowledgeable )
So if John was not there, he would have died from blood loss like Richard said
He had to get Dicky to go or he would have Pre-maturely died

so if THAT scene is a timeloop then isn't the whole thing a time loop? I mean, how do we know that there isn't somebody talking to Ethan before time travelling John Locke shows up and telling him (Ethan) to go and shoot John Locke?
