We all know Locke gained the ability to walk on the island. However, when he falls down the well, he breaks his leg. While he is trying to re-connect the O-6, he is in a wheel chair. Was this just because the writers didn't know if Locke would lose this ability to walk in the real world, or are they trying to hide the answer?

It was because his leg was broke. When abbadon got shot john sure got over the car seat ok with his legs and drove the car, so his legs did work

Locke would be able to walk fine because he actually uses his legs, despite the fact one of them is broken.

He drives a car for example.
