A little confused here

How are we able to make the connection between "smokey" being the man who was talking to Jacob in the beginning of the show?

I figured something was up with Locke from the last episode and I was expecting that to be locke's real body when they opened up that case. I am not sure it was smokey, but I did think something must be up. So I guess we are assuming based on that info and what happened to Ben with his "daughter" in that scene under the temple?

Smokie told ben to follow locke and ben ended up killing jacob so smokie must be against jacob and therefore that guy in the beginning of the episode.

I guess, but I was wondering if it was outright stated somewhere. Maybe it will be when the directors/writers go over it in the next season.

It was interesting though. I do hope we see more about smokey and Jacob in the next season.
