When Richard visited him as a child John chose the knife. I am not sure what it means but that is all I kept thinking as John handed Ben a knife. Why would Richard even have put a knife in front of a young child? Did Richard already know? Even though I knew at that point that we are already thinking that is not really John.

Great point! Considering Richard was VERY ANGRY when he chose it! Like he knew he would grow up and get Jacob killed with it.

Perhaps they were wrong in that Locke wasn't the special, chosen one after all.... since he's dead and all..? Looks like the evil was really able to manipulate everyone involved.

But it seemed like Jacob was saving Locke and the others. Is Jacob really Good?

You are so smart! He did pick the knife! That "other" guy was he the father of John? But wait there are two Lockes. So by putting Christian's shoes on Locke what was that all about. Does dead Locke have his shoes on or does creepy John have the shoes.

The awake Locke changed into his black shoes. You see him knocking off the sand when they travled in the outrigger.

So he took them from the real John? So is Christian a creep also?

I think Richard did know. He said he had visited John three times during John's life and he didn't seem all that special. It was interesting also how Richard said to John, "something's different about you" when John returned to the island. Now we know that the John Richard was with was not really John Locke at all.

Richard said that he visited Locke on three separate occasions after he visited him in the 50's once when he was born once as a child I can't recall the third time but it was all in the past not future so Richard could have no idea that Locke would kill Jacob in the future

What makes me curious is that even after Richard realizes Locke is dead, he doesn't run into Jacob's room and try to save him or anything.

There was a conversation between Richard and Jack in the underground next to the bomb when Richard started talking about Locke and not really seeing anything special in him when Jack said something about Locke is special just not in those words or something to that effect. Any one remember that conversation?

If I remember right he said he's special just don't give up on him.

im pretty sure richard was mad when child john picked the knife in the test purely because he didnt pick the compass which richard gave to him as an adult so he would bleive that he knew him while timejumping...

Isn't there some saying that goes "The biggest lie the devil ever told was that he doesn't exist"? Or something along those lines. Easu doesn't seem to use a body of his own.

i think this idea might deserve its own thread - i too was wondering if jacob or the other guy might be lockes father. the other guy makes more sense as perhaps the loophole is a next of kin kinda thing?

I thought similarly that the knife was the right pick in an earlier thread "the knife" www.lost.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9288

But Locke doesn't kill Jacob.

And I'd say there isn't much to discuss on this matter, Richard was most probably just disapointed he didn't pick the Compass. If Richard or even Jacob knew Locke was going to kill Jacob, I doubt they would have even bothered considering of creating him their leader.

The only role Locke ever had in Lost was to bring the O6 back to the Island, and that's it. The New Locke could have used anyone to make Ben do what he wanted, but since Ben killed him, it made an ideal situation for him to become Locke and shock Ben. Nothing more.

But Locke doesn't kill Jacob.

Maybe there is still the essence of John in the replicated body, John also had a drawing of Smokie on the wall. I am wondering if they will have time to wrap every up all the loose ends in one season (there was a thread on that somewhere).
