Actually, Jacob lived under a (potentially) 60 foot statue! They said all that intentionally I'm sure.

lol, I didn't even pick up on that when "locke" (aka smoke monster, aka anti Jacob) kicked him into the fire. I was too caught up in the moment to remember the podcast stuff. Other than that when they were saying certain people were good or bad, they didn't mention Locke at all, which i though twas weird at the time, but makes sense. now.

They also said that the death would be pain and sacrifice on the level of Charlie's death. I think that sort of fell flat because, while the writers know what a character is about and can be attached to them, they didn't really give us a reason to be attached to Juliet before this episode. If they'd played out some of her backstory and showed us who she was earlier, it probably would have been more than... "Damn... that sucks." Even some of the people who liked her weren't sure if she was even a good guy and many were convinced she was evil and up to something. That's sad. I would have liked to have felt more strongly about her sacrifice and death. As it was we just figured out she's a damaged person doing the best she can like everyone else, then she sets off the bomb .... imo... for two reasons. One is that she's at the bottom of a shaft and the other choice is to wait for the jumble of metal to get sucked in and crush her slowly... and the other is just what she said to Sawyer. If she never meets him, she doesn't have to leave him. That's not really sacrificing herself for anyone else. So... in short... I felt a little let down by that.

Ummm, I think they were referring to John Locke. He's dead and dead is dead. His character will never return. We may see his image but it will never be John Locke again. I'm inclined to think that's what they meant.

John's death, to me was just sad. It meant that he was a loser again. Not special, just used.

And I think that's what Richard also said....

I was actually quite sad when he was killed, he seemed like a nice guy. Perhaps he'll live somehow.

I actually had a hard time sleeping last night because i was so upset about this. John never had his day in the sun. He was used his entire life. I wish the writers would have let John win at something in his life.

But sometimes that is just part of life. They are portraying their characters as the fallible human beings we all are. I think they are doing a great job with that because essentially, it is the whole story. The fight and plight of the good guys against the bad guys. Humans are flawed.

A lot of what happened in John's story made me think of certain people I know. He wanted to be special all his life. He wanted all the bad things to mean something or to be because of his specialness and not because he messed up. I think he was wasting his time at the box company. He could have gone and done something. I just got the feeling that he was always trying to be something special instead of just doing something special. It took going to the island to make him even really try, and that was only because he was healed and thought he'd found his special destiny. But then he wobbled the whole time and excused any screw up as 'destiny'. That's sad. He never really grew up, I guess. It's a very immature and egocentric thing to want and assume that you have a special destiny and that's why you don't fit into ordinary life with the regular people.
Didn't Sayid also die? Or do you think he'll somehow survive the unstoppable blood loss due to the island?
Also, since anti-Jacob took on Locke's appearance, does that mean he's been appearing as all the dead people on the island, like Christian, Horace, etc., just to manipulate everything into the loophole to kill Jacob?
My last thought when the screen went all white after Juliette detonated the bomb: "7 MORE MONTHS!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

8 more months...sorry. Smokie took on the appearance of many people but I am gonna guess that in order to do the deed to Jacob smokie needed to replicate just the right body to manipulate someone to do it for him. If the bad guy could just come right out and kill Jacob then he would have done it long ago. They kinda talked about that on the beach in the first scene. You know, when he said you know how much I want to kill you?

I know, i just always liked Locke, and was pulling for the underdog. I feel like Locke could have been a great leader, but anti locke stepped in and manipulated him. like the island and anti Jacob were fighting over Locke, each wanting him for their side.

I actually never like his character! Sorry. It was that air he had that he knew everything. He was all seeing. He wasn't. He was manipulated by Jacob to come to the island just like the rest of them. He was never appointed as leader of the Others..he basically appointed himself. He was manipulated into that as well. I guess I feel sorry for the poor guy.

no need to apologize, i just always thought that while he may have been being manipulated, he thought that he was trying to do the right thing, while jack was trying to do what was right for him.

If Locke is gone for good, than it def is a major major major major, did I say major, death. Maybe he was the one they were talking about that he wasnt the first to hear about his death.

Possibly so. But he, the actor, will still make at least one or two appearances as the deadlocke. But the character Locke is dead and gone and not coming back. I'm sure Terry O'Quinn will be around for a long while and I think that TPTB kind of pushed the whole thing about the actor having a fit to peek audience attention and generate interest and speculation. We are always being manipulated! So, which one do you think is the good guy and which the bad guy out of Cuse and Lindelof? lol.

it was interesting, and will hopefully continue to be, seeing Terry O'Quin playing the other side of the coin this season. I really love his scenes with Ben.
