When Jack, Sayid, Ricardus and Ellie are in the room with Jughead, Sayid says they only have 2 hours to detonate it and notes that "when Faraday returned to the Island, he was very specific about his timeline".

How would Sayid know this? Am I mis-remembering something or was Sayid already in hiding after shooting young Ben when Daniel returned and Daniel only spoke to the Losties who were living in Dharmaville? I thought that we didn't see Sayid again until he shot the Hostile that was about to shoot Kate, which was after Faraday was already dead, so there'd be no way for Sayid to know any of his thoughts on the timeline.

And, if the answer is "it was in Faraday's book" then why wouldn't Sayid reference the book that he was holding at the time when Jack asked him about the 2 hour window? And, since Jack had also gone thru Faraday's book, why wouldn't he have read the same info and known the answer to his own question?

Are we going to get a flashback to see Sayid and Danny talking after the sub returns or is this just another case of Darlton making things up as they go along?

The journal must have mentioned that. If it had specific instructions on what to use, where to bring it, how to get it out, etc., what would keep it from saying...
BTW - You have 2 hours when u take it out. Run nig-nog

To answer your counter-point too...maybe Jack did read it? And why can't it be assumed Sayid got that from the book?
Also - the reason for the 2 hours is that is when Faraday seems to know the drilling will hit the "pocket", so that adds another level to it.

I felt the same way. I was thinking, oh great...what did I forget about this time! Why is Sayid talking about Faraday as if they were discussing this in person? Maybe because Sayid is more familiar with this kind of stuff he read the journal more in depth than Jack or Elli and was just quoting it.

Yeah, but Sayid says "when Faraday returned to the Island, he was very specific about his timeline" or something thereabouts. So, he's specifically referencing Faraday at the time of his return. Otherwise he'd say "Faraday's notebook is very specific about his timeline."

I'm chalking it up to Darlton winging it despite their claims that they've had everything figured out all along....
