This could be completely wrong, but whatever, I feel I should point it out because I think it is overlooked. I rewatched both episodes to make some kind of case here.

In the van, where Sayid is wounded, he says that he needs to rig the bomb to explode on impact, just as Faraday had instructed. The next scene is when they get stopped by Kate, Juliet, and Sawyer. The next episode starts and the next scene in that time period is the Sawyer-Shephard bout, Juliet's confession, and Kate's vote of confidence.

After this Jack returns to the van to see Sayid outside of the van with the hydrogen bomb core sitting next to him wrapped in the cloth.

He then tells Jack that the bomb is rigged to explode on impact.

Now, my question is, how did Sayid accomplish this? When Jack is at the van he goes back in for the backpack. What tools did Sayid use to make this thing explode on impact? I just don't believe one can accomplish this, even with the incredible skill of Sayid when it comes to these things, without the aid of some kind of tools. Even if there were instructions by Faraday that would state how to make this possible, that journal would have been in that backpack. Also, it is very difficult to do anything with a bullet in the abdomen. So this is the point I'm getting at:

Did Sayid purposely sabotage Jack's bomb plan by not setting it to explode on impact?

Jin, Hurley, and Miles didn't know the plan with the bomb, so they wouldn't know what Sayid had to do, or the extensiveness of what he had to do.

Sayid knew Jack's intentions of going back to 2004. If all went well, then Sayid would have landed at LAX and would have gone to Irvine to find Nadia. Now, you may ask, why would that support my case? Wouldn't he want that? Well, maybe not, and this is the reason:

When Nadia first left Sayid, she left him a photo with the arabic inscription that said, "You will see me in the next life, if not in this one". This combined with the fact that Sayid says, "Nothing can save me", makes me believe that Sayid wants to die and see Nadia in the afterlife. If he lands in 2004, he may fear that her accident may still occur, because that was in 2005.

This is what Lostpedia has to say about the scene:

"In the jungle near The Swan, Sayid tells Jack he can rig the bomb to detonate on impact, realizing that his bleeding can not be stopped. Once they arrive, Sayid rigs the bomb and wishes Jack good luck. When Jack comes under fire at the construction site, Sayid is in the van while the rest of the group support Jack. Upon detonation by Juliet, it is uncertain what Sayid's fate is"

Maybe I'm taking this completely out of context, but I feel that it cannot be confirmed that Sayid set that bomb to explode on impact, and due to the fact that we don't know if Juliet got that thing to blow or not, I think the theory could be plausible.

I want to know what you guys think. Please don't flame, but post constructive opinions.

haha, thanks, I have been on these boards for a while, I just never made an account to post anything. I felt it was worth making an account, because I have eight months to discuss theories with all of you guys lol.

dude, i had the same realization. i was like, you rigged it?... when? i think it definitely did go off when juliet hit it, but i don't know a lot about h-bombs so i'm thinking that if sayid didn't that it could still detonate if it was hit repeatedly enough?

I was also a "lurker" like you. I lurked these forums for years before i started an account. I thought i would only post here and there so I named myself newbie as a joke...but now I hate the name. I am no longer a newbie (my opinion)

Heh, I like your signature quote, "Never take anything for granted" because that's what I always say.
