What's John Locke's adopted name?

I know this is trivial and probably been answered but it's annoying me for a while. I might have my facts wrong here so forgive me:

John Locke was adopted. Like with any adoption you take your adopted parents surname. So I presumed that was his adopted surname. However in the episode where he meets his real parents, when he comes to his da's house he tells the guard "Tell him I'm Angela Locke's son". So this would indicate Locke is his birth name which is weird. Did his adopted parents call him John Locke?!? If not, what's his adopted name? Anyway if anyone could enlighten me about this it would be appreciated. Later.

John was never adopted. He was raised in foster-care. That is why his name remained John Locke his whole life.

Thanks man. Sorry, I thought his mother said something like "You were adopted as a child, weren't you?" in that episode which threw me off. Yeah foster care makes more sense. I won't ask anymore questions...
