Notso and I were disgussing a screencap in the Season 3 Thread and I had posted a pic of the Smokie and Anubis Hieroglyphic referencing that I though it looked rather skullish.... See Thread below

However after further review to me it looked like a face. Note the oval shape as an eye, the protrusion of a nose and chin, even lips can be made out. Then looking into it further it started to take the shape of a well known character on the show....

If you look at it as if it is a face, it looks to me that the nose is long and rather hooked, and the chin is prominent. So what character has a profile like these features..... Locke. So I took a profile shot, (which was rather hard to find, seems he doesn't turn to the side too often) and overlaid it on the hieroglyphic and the outlines of the prominent features matched up perfectly. See the picture below.

Most caricatures over exaggurate the prominent features anyway which is why the eye is not perfectly aligned.

With what happened on the 5th season finale I don't think it's too far out there. If you piggy back this theory onto my Smokie is a machine theory it is plausible that Locke's face is coming through a monitor or screen, where on the other side he is sitting in a chair at the controls discussing whatever with Anubis.

I am excited to see what you guys think about this...

I don't know, that might be stretching it a bit. Your avatar pic made me laugh!

I had always seen it as that face. As far as it being Locke's face, I can't say for sure. It is more of the face of a devil as it has been portrayed in history, or that of a witch. That to me, would represent that smokie is evil and was always looked upon that way. They face is meant to be freightening looking in the glyph, no doubt. It seems that it is protecting what is behind it. That is what I had translated to be several worlds or several times in space...something to that effect. So, smokie is the guardian of spacetime dimensions? IDK. I like not only your graphic but your imagination to come up with that! It's always possible that it was a forshadowing of what was to come but I don't think that it was meant as Locke always being the smoke monster.

I'm not knocking your theory, so please do not take it that way. I think that the face resembling Locke was more of a forshadowing than actually being him. Faces with long curved noses and pointed curved chins have been used down through the ages to represent something evil. Look at the picture below carefully. It is a lithograph from the Grimm's Fairy Tale, "Hansel and Gretel" and check out the face of the witch. The story is German in origin and is related to a French story similar in nature called, "The LOST Children." HA! Coincidence? Never on this show!!!!

Ahhh, very nice picture notso...., and please feel free to knock my theory, it's why I put it out there. I agree it does look rather witchish, or to be non-sexist the face of a warlock... I also see the horn on the head signifying the devil or deciever, as the bible calls him. After what I seen from Locke this past episode, he would be described as a bit deceptive. But I don't want to come out and say the smoke monster is Locke. I just think maybe the real Locke, the good Locke, is at the controls of the machine when the carver seen this meeting taking place. I would like to keep my original theory that it is still a machine. After all Radinski said on the blast door map that it was a Security System and it malfunctioned, sounds a bit mechanical to me. I am really excited to see where our Losties end up after the flash. I'd like to see them in the future perhaps when Smokie was created.
