This is my first time posting, but I read theories often so take it easy on me:

Basing my opinion on the fact that everything can be explained scientifically. What if Jacob and his friend are the basis for multiple religious ideologies? What if they are two guys that are on the island and discover they can go in and out of time and places based on the magnetic properties of the island. Jacobs “Friend” in the beginning of the finale does have gray hair, if they couldn’t get older, then I am assuming he would be in his twenties and not in his early to mid forties. I think they then come up with plans to sort of “play” god by influencing human nature or not, its seems to be the old “nature vs. nurture” argument

1. When they were speaking they weren’t talking in an ancient language or dialect, it seemed to be pretty modern.
2. They do seem to be getting older, so while they may have visited “500 AD” one day, the next they could be in 2010, hey maybe they are from 2200 and have survived on the island after an “Extinction Level Event” which may explain the smoke monster (and may contribute to the islands time traveling) and the argument in the beginning of the finally about things not ending well (when the ship was approaching)
3. They can move out of time and places pretty easily
4. Jacob in Christian religion, think “Jacob’s Ladder”
5. What looks to be “Anubis” the statue, another being taking people to the underworld.

Welcome to the site. I am new too. I like your thought that everything cane be explained scientifically. Here is something for you to look into. I came up with this idea.

If you read the story about Enki & Enkil (Google it) you will learn this is where the writers are getting their plot ideas. Jacob is Enki and his island companion is Enkil. They are The Ancients. Enki is good and Enkil is bad. They have been warring for thousands of years. Richard is Jacobs son. That's why he doesn't age. Enki, according to sumerian texts and the Bible, is the one who warned Noah of the coming flood. Enki is always saving mankind. Enkil is always trying to destroy them. In the episode he said: "It's alaways the same, they fight, they destroy.....blah blah". Jacob says: "there is only one end, everything else is progress".The Island is the fabeled Garden of Eden were mankind began. Remember, man was banished from the garden. That's why women can't have children there. According to Sumerian texts Enki & Enkil are decendants of the God Anu from Nibiru. They are Anunnaki. That is why Locke (Enkil) was suprised when Enki (Jacob) told him that they are coming. Sumerian texts and the Myan calander states that Nibiru is due back in our solar system in 2012. Nobody is supposed to be able to find Eden. That's why on LOST they can move the Island. They are taking just bits and pieces from the story of Enki and Enkil to create a good TV show. I still like LOST even though I have figured out where they are going with this. Check out the cloth that Jacob weaved. If you look closely, you will see It tells the story of the coming of The Ancient Gods. Yes, the ones that actually built the Pyramids in Giza. If you don't believe me.....look it up yourself! If you have an open mind to this, please respond.

I can't see a TV network, allowing such a plot that would raise holy hell with Christians (no pun intended, and no intended slam to any people/religions either) and other religious groups. Releasing a movie (The DaVinci Code) is one thing, but TV networks have stricter rules to follow. I would welcome this theory as the premise for the show, but sadly I don't think it will be.
