Lost in Thought

Hey all, I’m brand new here. Anyway, I have a theory of sorts that my mom actually came up with. Something in the “enhanced” version of The Economist made her think of this old movie from the ‘30s called Lost Horizon. The title isn’t the only thing that’s eerily similar. It was actually based on a book, which I’m hoping will show up as an easter egg one of these days, but the movie version fits the plot much better. This is the Wikipedia article on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Horizon_(film)
So I’m thinking that some of the characters from Lost are sort of combinations of the book characters. I say that because the Oceanic 6, at least Jack and Hurley, are desperately trying to get back to the island (Shangri-la). After they leave the island, things seem like they’re going downhill for them (in the movie they age rapidly), at least for Jack and Hurley. Plus there are the properties of the island that seem to keep people from aging and heal them, just like in the movie. The survivors are brought to the island for a reason; same with Conway. The High Lama could be like Jacob, Alpert, or even Ben. Sondra could be Juliet (maybe the Others are like the Shangri-la natives). So Conway could be Locke, Jack, Walt, even Hurley. After looking at the supporting characters, I noticed they look a heck of a lot like our Losties. The academic = Jack. Swindler = Saywer. Terminally-ill lady = Rose.
I’m probably reading too much into this, but I’d like to know what you guys think. I’ll eventually get the movie from NetFlix, so hopefully I might be able to find some more things.
